Firth outguns Salmon, 41-40

Connor Montgomery rushed for 221 yards to lead Firth to a 41-40 Nuclear League victory over Salmon on Friday night.
The Cougars (6-1, 3-0) led 20-0 early and had a 27-19 halftime lead.
Salmon quarterback Jedd Tibbitts led the Savages back with three rushing touchdowns and one through the air but Firth hung on for the win.
The Cougars will be at North Fremont on Friday.

Shelley topples Sugar-Salem, 27-8

Kaden Schmidt passed for 128 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score as Shelley defeated Sugar-Salem 27-8 in District Six play on Friday.
Randy Bauer rushed for 57 yards and a score and Josh Hathaway had a 42-yard touchdown as the Russets (5-1, 1-0) rolled up 268 yards of total offense.
Sugar-Salem (4-2, 0-1) opened the scoring with Jordan's Godby's 35-yard touchdown, but didn't score again until Shelley's Jacob Sutherlin was tackled in the end zone at the end of the third quarter.

Snake River rolls over American Falls, 42-0

Before Friday Wyatt Volger hadn't played much varsity football for Snake River.
Vogler almost certainly earned more playing time after rushing for 170 yards and 3 touchdowns to help the Panthers (3-3, 1-0 District Five) defeated American Falls 42-0.
"My teammates told me to treat it like a JV game," Vogler said. "Just go out and do your job.

Broncos gallop past Knights, 24-6

A week ago when Blackfoot took to the field of Thunder Stadium they lost quarterback Taylor Pearson to a concussion, coach Stan Buck was ejected from the game and the team went home with a 27-21 loss.
Friday night the Broncos returned to Thunder Stadium to take on Hillcrest and former Blackfoot assistant Jeff Marshall for the first time.
After coming so close to earning a victory last week, the Broncos finally got over the hump as three Kylar Haddon second quarter touchdowns and a 37-yard field goal from Gabby Botello were enough for a 24-6 victory.

Children's musical opens Monday at Snake River

THOMAS — "The Island of No Return," a children's musical, opens at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Snake River High School auditorium. A pre-show starts at 6:45 p.m. while people are seated.
Tickets cost $5 per person.
Each evening, performances begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday—Oct. 14, 15, 18 and 19. A pre-show starts at 6:45 p.m. while people are seated.
Eighty children fill the roles in this musical. The children are ages 3-13.
"It's organized chaos," said director Jana McBride.
Auditions took place Aug. 23, 24. The cast has been practicing since then.

Name of crash victim released

SHELLEY — Idaho State Police have released the name of the 19-year-old female who died Thursday morning in a one-vehicle crash on I15, south of Shelley. She is Colleen N. Jackson, 19, of Saugus, Calif. Her name was withheld until relatives in California were notified.
On Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, Jackson was driving northbound on I15 in a 2005 Dodge pickup when she approached a slower moving vehicle.
Jackson made an abrupt lane change from the right lane to the left lane. She over corrected back to the right lane where she lost control of the vehicle and rolled.

Angry Pumpkin Chuckin Catapault Contest Saturday

The Angry Pumpkin Chuckin' catapult contest is an event within an event. The pumpkin launching, cannon shooting, egg tossing blast is part of the Wild Adventure Corn Maze, now located off Exit 98 on Rose Road.
"This event is just a blast," said Richard Johnson, owner of the Wild Adventure Corn Maze. "We have everything from small egg launchers to huge catapults. It is amazing to see what people are able to create."
Admission to watch the contest is free and all proceeds go towards prizes and cash awards for the winners.

POCATELLO — There was something for everyone - from the young entrepreneur to the seasoned business woman at the Working Women’s Business Symposium in Pocatello on Thursday.
Women from Bingham County and throughout the region were able to network and learn business and personal skills from the various speakers and breakout sessions offered at the annual conference sponsored by the Pocatello Small Business Development Center (SBDC)

Broncos earn bye win 1-0 over Preston

BLACKFOOT — Before the season began Blackfoot boys soccer coach Liam Pope said his team had one goal for the 2013 season and that was to earn one of the top two seeds in the 4A District 5/6 tournament and the first round bye.
With one strike off the leg of senior Ozzy Oseguera and some tough back lien defense the Broncos earned a 1-0 win, the number two seed and a first round bye in the district tournament.

ISU student died on I15 near Shelley

SHELLEY — One Idaho State University student died in an early morning accident on Interstate 15 at milepost 105 south of Shelley on Thursday, Oct. 10.
At 6:28 a.m., the Idaho State Police were investigating a one-vehicle fatality crash south of Shelley.
A woman was northbound in a 2005 Dodge pickup when she approached a slower moving vehicle. She mad an abrupt lane change from the right lane to the left lane. She overcorrected back to the right lane where she lost control of the vehicle. The pickup rolled.
No one was wearing seat belts, said ISP. All three people inside were ejected.
