Local realtor vies for Blackfoot Council seat

As a candidate for Blackfoot City Council Seat 1, local realtor and businessman Andy Hasselbring has a fresh and long term vision for Blackfoot.
Hasselbring is vying for the seat against longtime incumbent Chris Jensen and newcomer Kenneth Ashcraft.
A Blackfoot native, Hasselbring said, "My vision for Blackfoot is to develop a culture in the city and help Blackfoot become the' best place to live and raise a family."

Man injured in rollover near Springfield

MORNING NEWS
SPRINGFIELD — An American Falls man was injured in a one-vehicle crash about milepost 26.5 on State Highway 39 on Monday.
According to the Idaho State Police, Victor Soltero Contreras, 23, was driving south in a 1993 Ford Ranger near 2600 West about 7 a.m. when he drove off the right shoulder, over-corrected and lost control of his vehicle. His truck went onto the left shoulder of the road and then rolled.
Soltero Contreras was not wearing a seatbelt.  He was transported by air ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.

Blackfoot woman selected as Idaho's Distinguished Young Woman

Miiko Lyne’ Toussaint, the Distinguished Young Woman of Blackfoot, won the state title Saturday night at the Civic Auditorium in Idaho Falls. She will represent Idaho at the national competition in June 2014 in Mobile, Ala.
Forty talented young ladies from across the state competed in fitness, talent, self-expression, scholastic, interview and Be Your Best Self.
Distinguished Young Women is a high school scholarship program. On Saturday night, scholarships totalling $25,000 were awarded.
For becoming DYW Idaho, Toussaint won a $5,000 scholarship.

Eagles spoil Panthers senior night

THOMAS — Maybe it was the emotion of senior night or the fact that the Snake River Lady Panthers were playing under the lights on Harrison Field, a place they normally do not play, whatever the reason was the team did not look comfortable.

Firth rolls to victory over West Jeff

FIRTH — Last Friday night the Firth Cougars defense wanted to pitch the shutout against visiting Ririe.
But with a 59-0 lead in the fourth quarter head coach Keith Drake pulled his starters and put in his junior varsity players and Ririe was able to get a late touchdown.

Early voting begins Monday

Early voting will begin on Monday and will continue through to Nov. 1.
Early voting for all of the Bingham County elections will be at the Bingham County Courthouse. The hours for early voting will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Early voting will be for all elections that will be held in Bingham County on Nov. 5.
The cities of Aberdeen, Atomic City, Basalt, Blackfoot, Firth, and Shelley will be having elections. Also the Shelley/Firth Fire District, the North Bingham Library District, and the Groveland Cemetery will be holding elections.

Born May 12, 1917 in Rexburg, ID to Chiyo (Minowa) and Sannosuke Yamagata and passed away on October 1, 2013 in Salt Lake City, at the age of 96.

Fundraiser held for local dairyman with lung disease

BLACKFOOT—A family who has given much to the community is now in need themselves as father/husband, Heath Young, has been hit with a lung disease and will need a lung transplant.
Young, a native of Blackfoot, grew up working on a dairy farm. He loved farming and has made a living through the years (for his wife Wendi and their five children) working on the family farm.
According to close family friend Tiffany Bartausky, in 2006 Young "began struggling with a persistent cough that wouldn't go away."
