Sen. Risch conducts small business roundtable

Federal regulations on small business were the theme of the business roundtable hosted by Sen. Jim Risch (R-Idaho) Friday afternoon on the University Place campus. About 30 people attended
Risch is the highest-ranking Republican) on the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
From a question about credit unions, Risch commented on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

POCATELLO — For the first time since fall camp began Aug. 12, the Blackfoot High School football got the chance to hit somebody else.
What was supposed to be jamboree between Blackfoot, Burley and host Highland was cut short by Mother Nature as a series of thunderstorms moved through Pocatello causing the day to halted early.

Blackfoot board approves credit card policy

The Blackfoot School Board trustees started off on a positive note Thursday evening by recognizing the achievements of the Blackfoot High School tennis team.
For the first time ever, the boys tennis team won the district championship and were runners-up to the state champions.
District superintendent Chad Struhs said that some of the district's great accomplishments missed getting recognized when they happen in late May and we wanted to make sure that the team received the recognition that it deserves.

Snake River passes parking plan

THOMAS — Members of the Snake River High School student council want to rent parking spaces for student parking at the high school.
"What the council wants to do is number the parking spaces," said SRHS student body president Dexton Lake. "We would charge students $15 per trimester or $40 per year for their own parking spot.
"Each student's parking space would be guaranteed and he/she wouldn't need to drive around the parking lot looking for a parking space," said Lake.

Stewart takes over in Aberdeen

Firth woman dies in ATV accident

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) -

A southeastern Idaho woman has died in an all-terrain vehicle crash near West Yellowstone.

The Montana Highway Patrol says the 84-year-old woman from Firth, Idaho lost control of the ATV she was riding as she was traveling downhill on a gravel road in Madison County. She managed to get the ATV back onto the road before it rolled. She was thrown from the vehicle and it landed on top of her.

The patrol tells The Billings Gazette the woman was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene.

Darlene Beth Bolander from Firth is the woman who died.

Arraignment set for Jack York

BLACKFOOT — Attorney Anne Taylor from Blackfoot appeared in court Wednesday morning on behalf of Jack York.
York is the former Internet Technician (IT) director at Bingham Memorial Hospital.
He is facing three felony counts of wire tapping (Interception of Wire, Electronic or Oral Communications) that allegedly occurred at Bingham Memorial Hospital.
The felony counts were determined by a Grand Jury of Bingham County in June 2013.
The warrant for his arrest has been quashed.
His arraignment is set for 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, before Sixth Judicial District Judge David Nye.

Local woman opens dessert shop

Blackfoot has become a sweeter place with the opening of the custom cake and dessert shop "Paisley Cakes." Businesswoman and baker Lanae Lott Workman opened the shop adjacent to the Tesoro gas station on Airport Road.
Workman, a native of Blackfoot, said she has had a passion for baking and creating desserts since she was a child baking small treats in her Easy Bake Oven.
"I've spent hours decorating cakes and perfecting desserts. Desserts have always been my destiny," she said.
