Life jacket station at Jensen Grove

BLACKFOOT — Eagle Scout candidate Kyle Stailey of Moreland was among a group of people who installed two loaner life jacket stations at Jensen Grove Lake on Saturday.
"We're setting up loaner stations for those who don't have life jackets or forgot them," Stailey said.
"Scouts help get the stands set up," said Juelie Traska, the Boat Safety Education Coordinator for the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation.
"The Bingham County Marine Deputies will monitor the stations to ensure that they're kept up," Traska continued.

District 55 to open new middle school in fall

A new middle school will open in Blackfoot this coming fall.
Summit Middle School is for sixth, seventh and eighth graders.
A parent presentation is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Tuesday to explain the objectives of this new school. The meeting will take place in the board room in the Blackfoot District office, 270 E. Bridge St., in Blackfoot.
"This will be a non-traditional middle school," said administrator Brandee Hewitt. "It will be project-based learning.
The school will be located upstairs in the district office.

Body Sculpting Business Opens in Blackfoot

BLACKFOOT—Local businesswoman Jackie Foote has admittedly battled her weight through the years, so when she discovered a way to get rid of fat for good through body sculpting, it inspired her to open her own business: "Sleek Physique and Body Sculpting."
Foote said she was skeptical when she first heard about "Ultrasound Fat Cavitation and Radio Frequency Treatments," through her daughter Stephanie Pitman, who has also opened up a body sculpting business in Helena, Mont.

Local MMA Fighter Picks up First Win

BLACKFOOT—Rayce Ranstrom of Pingree, and Jonathan Turpin of Blackfoot, for Team Mayhem brought home some impressive wins this past Saturday.
They earned those victories at the Mixed Martial Arts Showdown 2 at the Shoshone-Bannock Hotel and Convention Center.
Turpin, a 2009 graduate of Snake River High School, has an extensive background in wrestling, including qualifying as a state finalist his senior year. Although his love for wrestling will never falter; Mixed Martial Arts has slowly but surely become his new passion.
"It helps keep my life stress-free," said Turpin.

Moreland kindergartners enjoy Ag Day

Kindergartners at Moreland Elementary enjoyed a day filled with adventure on Thursday.
Kindergartners circled through 10 activities. Each activity lasted 30 minutes.
The activities included:
° Smores and an obstacle course
° Rockets and kites
° Bugs
° Idaho Fish & Game
° Planting a tree
° Hayride
° The Idaho Farm Bureau provided a wheat adventure. (Students ground wheat for pancakes.)
° The Idaho Farm Bureau also brought Maggie the milk cow. Kindergartners made butter that was put on their pancakes.

1918 – 2013
Dona Eliza Wheeler was born Aug. 22, 1918, in Moreland, the oldest daughter of Austin and Lurlean (England) Wheeler.
She died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the home of her granddaughter/son Julie and Todd Jorgensen.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at the Paul LDS Stake Center, 424 Ellis, with a viewing an hour prior to the service. A viewing will also be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the Morrison Payne Funeral Home, 321 E. Main St., Burley. Burial is at noon Tuesday, May 28, at the Paul cemetery.

  Peggy A. Sjostrom, 69, passed away Monday,  May 20, 2013 at Bingham Memorial Hospital from natural causes.
            Peggy was born September 25, 1943 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Ken Mecham and Anita Jensen.  She spent time in Seattle, Washington as well as in Blackfoot.
            She is survived by one daughter, Cindy (Alan) Krause; four sons, Jessie (Danny) Mitchell, Terry (Marie) Hoskins, Troy (Juanita) Hoskins and Jerry (Bernie) Bunce; five sisters, Shirley Mecham, Bonnie Evans, Deone (Max) Anderson, Tina (Conci) Mejia and Chris (Ken) Buck; many grandchildren; and great grandchildren.

2013 High Country Conference Softball All-Conference Team

BLACKFOOT — The season is over. The stats have been compiled and the votes are in for the 2013 High Country Conference softball All-Conference team and as expected, the 23-3 Blackfoot Lady Broncos have several selections to this years team.
"Honestly, while we are happy with the all-conference selections that we got, we felt that we could have had even more," Blackfoot head coach Matt Chavez said. "Our top eight hitters in our lineup each hit over .400 this year and when you are hitting at those levels, regardless of what league your playing in, that's pretty special."

Ted Kinney, 86

Ted Waine Kinney, 86, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away peacefully, Monday, May 20, 2013 at Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot, Idaho.
            He was born November 2, 1926 in Blackfoot, Idaho the son of Norma Seamons and Waine Vernon Kinney.
            Ted enjoyed growing up on a farm just east of Blackfoot.
