Basic American helps Snake River begin program

To provide more options for Snake River students, Basic American Foods plant manager Brent Higginson presented a check for $5,250 to the Snake River School District Friday.
The money will be used for technology, probably the purchase of laptops to be used in the new civil engineering technology class offered at Snake River High School (SRHS) this fall.
Darren Leavitt, an instructor at Idaho State University, will teach the class via the Idaho Education Network (IEN).

Joseph Grover, 63

Joseph Grover, 63, of Moreland, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from injuries sustained in an accident.
Joe was born September 12, 1949 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Samuel B. Grover and Gwendolyn Cheney.  He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1968 and attended Idaho State University in Pocatello.
 On April 11, 1969 Joe married Lena Kay Michelson in Springfield. She preceded him in death in March of 1995.  On January 8, 1999 Joe married Rebecca Heson in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Marcine Nancy Jones, 91

Marcine Nancy Gardner Jones, 91, of Pocatello, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday May 7, 2013 at the home of her daughter in West Valley City, Utah from complications incident to age. She has been homebound since last fall and has lived with her children since then.

Vaudis Ann Carter Dance, 88

May 10, 2013

Mrs. Dance has completed her last assignment and turned in her homework.  A long time master teacher in the Blackfoot, Idaho School District, Vaudis died on May 5, 2013.

Blackfoot baseball punches ticket to first state tournament since 2001

IDAHO FALLS — The Blackfoot Bronco baseball squad punched their ticket to the state tournament on Thursday evening, their first trip to the big dance since 2001, as they avenged an earlier loss to the Pocatello Indians with a 8-5 victory.
"After we lost the first game with Pocatello we just told the kids to relax and focus because we still needed two wins to get to state no matter how we did it," Blackfoot head coach Kenny Dahle said. "We felt that we were in a good position with our arms. We were confident that we could get it done and that's what we did."

Blackfoot boys capture first ever district tennis championship

POCATELLO — Fantastic! That was the word that repeatedly came from Blackfoot head tennis coach Brint Jeffris on Thursday afternoon as his boys team captured their first district championship in the history of the program by a wide margin as they scored 71.5 team points with Century coming in second with a team total score of 48.
"This is the first district championship for the boys and with eleven players going to state that is the most ever," Blackfoot head coach Brint Jeffris said. "This was probably the most successful team in the history of Blackfoot tennis."

Independence students propose smoke-free parks

Students Nayeli Morales and Tony Davis from the Student Health Council at Independence High School are on a mission to see that all parks in Blackfoot become smoke-free for the better health of everyone, especially children. The students, along with Traci Lambson, MHE from Southeastern Idaho Public Health (SIPH), presented a proposal to the Blackfoot City Council on Tuesday night in hopes that the city will consider making smoke-free parks a reality in the near future.

Bingham Coop gives $14,000 to SEICAA

With the help of its patrons, employees and members of the community, Bingham Co-op presented a check for $14,100 and boxes of food to the Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency (SEICAA) Wednesday.
"Even though it wasn't a great year, with help from the community we increased our giving," said Bingham Coop marketing director Jeff Nii.
The total amount of funds given to SEICAA increased by over $1,000 from last year.
"People came by and dropped off money or food," he said. "Our employees also were very involved."

CAUSING PROBLEMS: April 8, 7:41 a.m.: A woman said she believes someone has been opening her gates and letting the horses out. She said someone has broken the padlocks she put up and now they have started turning on the water when she leaves.

TRUCK ON FIRE: April 8, 8:29 p.m.: A caller reported a truck on fire. They said orange flames are coming from the engine compartment and the truck has a full tank of gas.

Sixth inning rally lifts Lady Broncos to conference championship

POCATELLO — In a classic pitchers duel, the Blackfoot Lady Broncos emerged victorious on Wednesday evening as they tallied four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 4-2 win over a very game Pocatello squad, wrapping up an undefeated conference season and with it a 4A High Country Conference Championship.
"This was really important to me," Blackfoot's lone senior Jessica Capson said. "My whole objective this year was bringing a district championship back to Blackfoot. I'm excited to go kick some butt at state now to."
