Cristel Handly, 70, of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away on March 14, 2013. She died peacefully at her home. Her trial with ovarian cancer lasted over three years.
Cristel grew up in Shelley where she was born Sept. 9, 1942. She raised her family in Phoenix. After her children were grown she "snow-birded" summers in a home built near where she grew up. She loved being near her siblings.
Cristel was known for her can-do attitude, the principles of work she taught to her children, and a hospitable generosity.
Welland Andrew Hansen, 86, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Bingham Memorial Hospital
Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Welland â€śRustyâ€ť was born July 27, 1926 in Newton, Utah, to Andrew Lester and Anna Kropfli Hansen.Â When he was two years old his parents purchased a farm and moved to Bancroft, Idaho.Â He grew up with his younger brother, Jim and Marguerite â€śMigâ€ť, an aunt four years older than him who he considered his sister.Â They were a close-knit family who shared the joys and struggles of farm life.Â He graduated from North Gem High School in 1944.
BLACKFOOT â€” Former superintendent Dewane Wren is challenging Peter Lipovac for one of the three Blackfoot School Board trustee positions which will be decided in May. They are facing off in Zone 1. In Zone 3 Lori Kitzmiller is challenging longtime trustee Mary Jo Marlow. Derek Preece has filed to replace Dr. Taylor Johansen in Zone 3. No one else filed to run for that seat. Johansen announced recently that he would not run again.

It's official. All supplemental levies in Bingham County passed.
The canvass of the March 12, 2013, supplemental levies was approved by the Bingham County Commissioners on Thursday.
In Aberdeen School District No. 58, electors approved the supplemental levy of $675,000 for one year. The votes in favor of were 200 or 66.0 percent with 138 votes or 45.5 percent against.
The percentage of all registered voters who voted in the Aberdeen election was 25.12 percent.
No voters in Bingham County voted in the election for the supplemental levy in the Bonneville Joint School District No. 93.
The squeals and giggles coming from Stalker Elementary School could probably be heard from miles around as students had the rare opportunity to duct tape their teachers to the gym wall during a special assembly Friday afternoon.
According to PTA president Jenny Wells, the students earned the opportunity to duct tape their teachers for "having 100 percent student participation and raising over $6,000 in the dance-a-thon fundraiser at the school on March 11."
As an incentive to bring in more money, the students earned one yard of duct tape for every $25 earned for the fundraiser.
FIRTH â€” It was a good old fashioned cat fight at Firth High School on Thursday afternoon as the Lady Cougars of Firth welcomed the Lady Cougars of South Fremont to town for the season opener.
At the end of the day it took a bonus inning to decide the outcome and unfortunately for the home town team, it was South Fremont who got the best of the match up as they scored 8 runs in the eighth inning to take the 13-8 victory.
Michael Richard Jorgensen, 61, passed away on March 18, 2013 at his sonâ€™s home in Cross Junction, Virginia.
Â Mike was born on March 3, 1952 in Blackfoot. He was the oldest of three children born to Eldon R. and Margaret (Bischoff) Jorgensen.
Lila Mae Howe Hill, 74, of Blackfoot and formerly of Salmon passed away peacefully Thursday, March 14, 2013Â at the Safe Haven Health Rehab in Pocatello.
Lila was born Oct. 27, 1938 in Cambridge, Neb. to Lee Tyson and Nellie Mae Foster.Â She moved to Blackfoot at a young age.Â She attended school in Cambridge and in Leadore.
In 1958 Lila married Stanley Howe.Â Together they raised four children, Robert, Steve, Joe and Sherry.
Betty â€śJoanâ€ť Dance, 83, of Blackfoot, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Save Haven of Monticello in Idaho Falls.
Joan was born Aug. 22, 1929 in Blackfoot to James Godfrey Ropp and Laura Ellen Dockery.Â She lived her lifetime in the Blackfoot area.Â She attended grade school in Pingree and graduated from Thomas High School.
On April 1, 1948, Joan married DeLyle Dance in Rockford.Â Together they raised three children, Rick, Tamara and Clinton.
