Vonda Lee Wilson, 57, of Fort Hall, passed away Friday, February 8, 2013 at her home.Â Â Â
She was born February 13, 2013 in Blackfoot, Idaho the daughter of George Charles and Wanda Clements Wilson.
She attended school in Snake River.Â She never married but enjoyed the companionshipâ€™s with her dogs.
She is survived by brothers, Merlin and Melvin Wilson of Blackfoot and sister, Karen (Rick) Stecklein of Blackfoot.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Rhowanda Wilson.
BLACKFOOT â€” Law enforcement officers in Yuma, Arizona are outright stumped as to what has become of missing Blackfoot man Jack Doering.
Doering, 82, who suffers from Alzheimerâ€™s Disease, went missing in the Yuma area at about 9:45 a.m. on Jan. 17 after he got ahold of the keys to his gold 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, and took off by himself from a shopping center where he and his wife, Leah, were getting haircuts. The two Blackfoot residents have been wintering in the area since October.
FIRTH â€” Behind a 30 point night from senior guard Mitch Orme the Firth Cougars picked up a regular season split with Nuclear Conference rival North Fremont with a 72-52 victory on Friday evening.
Following a pre game ceremony honoring the five seniors on the squad, Braden Boyer, Luis Avila, Kent Jolley, Quinn Alvey and the aforementioned Mitch Orme exploded out of the gates as they outscored the visiting Huskies 31-11 in the first quarter.
BLACKFOOT â€” Two Blackfoot High School (BHS) automotive technologies students placed third at Weber State University's Automotive Contest in Ogden, Utah, last Thursday.
Cade Hebdon and Joey Snapp earned their honors at the multi-state invitational.
"Just to get on the podium is really doing something," said BHS Auto Instructor Dallen Worthington. "It's pretty competitive.
"Some of my students come into this program with their sights set on winning this competition," he said. "It's pretty neat when their work comes to fruition for some of them."
BLACKFOOT â€” Come June, three articulate Blackfoot High School (BHS) debaters are heading to Birmingham, Ala., for national competition.
Gentry Carter, Samantha Johnson and Blake Dewvall will compete at the national level of the National Forensic League (NFL). The double elimination qualifying meet took place Jan. 31-Feb. 2 at Madison High School in Rexburg.
"We have a really young team," said debate coach Marcy Curr. "I'm really proud of them."
Gentry and Blake are juniors. Samantha is a sophomore.
Lodena Kaye â€śKatieâ€ť Hawkins was born on Aug. 18, 1935 in Rawlins, Wyoming to Etha and James Justesen. After a long fruitful life she passed away due to a longtime illness on Jan. 30, 2013Â at Bingham Nursing Care and Rehab Facility, surrounded by her family and friends.
Katie is survived by children, Jewel Mc Murtery, Patricia Keller, Jeff and Dorien Jenkins, Kris Frady, L D and Melissa Hawkins; siblings, Larry (Shawna) Justesen, Margo Maxwell and Jullie (Dennis) Hoen; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Annette Marie Holm, 45, of Pocatello, passed away at her home on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013.
She started her life in Van Nuys, Calif., on April 27, 1967.
Due to her fatherâ€™s career, she had the opportunity to move and travel all over the U.S. and she saw many of the great sights this country has to offer. She attended many different schools, but on June 4, 2010, she excitedly and proudly accepted her GED and then enrolled in ISU where she was going to learn to be a web page designer for large corporations.
Â Julio Talamantes Sr., 86, of Blackfoot passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 at his home in Blackfoot.
Julio was born April 12, 1926, in Balleza, Chihuahua, Mexico to Antonio Escobar and Rita Talamantes.Â He lived his youth in Parral, Chihuahua, and moved to Blackfoot in 1984.
On July 11, 1946 Julio married Felipa Talamantes in Mexico.Â Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple in October of 1978.Â
MASON, Texas â€” Joseph Thorpe Sr. (LTC, USMC, Retired), of Mason, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at the age of 70.
Mr. Thorpe is survived by his wife Marylee Thorpe of Mason; two sons Jim Thorpe and wife Wendy of Houston, Texas, and Joseph Thorpe Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Lake Forest, Calif; five grandchildren â€” Joseph Culter, Cody Thorpe, Danielle Thorpe, Lauryn Thorpe and Morgyn Thorpe.
He was preceded in death by a son, Vincent Thorpe.
Joseph was born on Oct. 24, 1942, in Blackfoot, Idaho. He was one of nine children born to Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Thorpe.

Surrounded by loving family members, Alton James Reay, formerly of Blackfoot, passed away on Jan. 20, 2013, at Providence St Peter Hospital in Olympia, Wash. He will be remembered as a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
