Domestic violence in Bingham County in line with state average

BLACKFOOT — Idaho officials report that an episode of domestic violence takes place somewhere in Idaho once every 88 minutes.
According to the Idaho Council on Domestic Violence and Victim Assistance, this number is based only on the number of reported calls and that actual domestic violence occurrences are likely even higher.
Dixie Chapman director of Bingham Crisis Center said she believes this statistic to be right in line with Bingham County.

Broncos skin Diamonbacks 77-10

BLACKFOOT — A long week of wrestling continued on Thursday evening as the Blackfoot Broncos welcomed the Century Diamondbacks to town on senior night for a High Country Conference duel on the mats.
In the end, Thursday nights match was more of a breather, considering their previous nights work at Minico for a duel with Minico and Columbia, as they crushed the Diamondbacks 77-10.

Broncos finish season sweep of Diamonbacks

BLACKFOOT — All in all it was a highly successful senior night at Blackfoot High School as the Bronco faithful paid tribute to senior band, cheerleader, broncadette and basketball players as they took to the Chris Gardner Gymnasium for the final regular season time on Wednesday evening.
In the end, the basketball team sent those seniors out in style as they completed the regular season sweep of the Century Diamondbacks by winning a 47-36 defensive affair.
"It took us two and a half quarters to finally blow it open but when we did we took control of the game," Blackfoot head coach Dan Hale said. "It was an extremely good effort and I'm just really proud of the kids. It was a great way to end senior night."

ISTCS team places fourth in Future City competition

The Future City team at the Idaho Science and Technology Charter School placed fourth in a statewide competition.
Students on the Future City team are Matthew Blight, Madison Thompson, Max Park, Preston Stoker and Aidan Weaver. Matthew and Madison are eighth graders. Max is a seventh grader and Preston and Aidan are sixth graders.
This competition is for middle school students only.

Blackfoot still grappling with broken sewer line

City crews are still grappling to repair a sewer line on Frontage Road in Blackfoot that collapsed Monday morning flooding the basement of seven homes on Riverton Road with sewage water. Workers originally thought the repair would only take 12-24 hours. Now, they are hoping that all will go well and that they can complete the repair by Thursday evening.
"There are 100 things that could've gone right while making this repair and nothing did," said an exasperated Fred Davies, Public Works Director for the City of Blackfoot.

Snake River officials offer information on supplemental levy

Despite what one school board member termed a disappointing turnout, patrons had a spirited discussion about Snake River School District's supplemental levy election.
Superintendent Mark Gabrylczyk began Wednesday's cottage meeting at Moreland Elementary School by outlining his vision of what some of the money raised by the $900,000 levy could provide for the district's students.
Before beginning, Gabrylczyk said, "whenever you're shooting for a levy or a bond, it becomes an emotional issue. My job is to provide you with all the options so you can make an informed decision."

City making progress on sewer line repair

BLACKFOOT — City workers are making progress repairing a a 24 inch sewer line on Frontage Road in Blackfoot that collapsed Monday morning, severely damaging up to seven homes on Riverton Road with sewage water, knee deep in some places.
Blackfoot Mayor Mike Virtue said that city workers experienced some minor glitches while repairing the line, which put them a little behind schedule. He said he hopes the repair will be completed by Wednesday afternoon.

Engineering firm broaches overpass options

BLACKFOOT — Bob Butler, a representative of Butler Engineering of Shelley, offered some preliminary ideas to the Blackfoot City Council Tuesday evening for building an overpass or underpass to help alleviate the train crossing problem in Blackfoot.
Butler Engineering is well known in the state for building bridges including the Snake River Bridge in Firth and the Riverton Road Bridge in Blackfoot.
Butler said he believes there are some sites in Blackfoot that would be conducive for a locally funded overpass or underpass.

3A Southeast Idaho Conference Champions!

POCATELLO — The Snake River Lady Panthers got off to a quick start in their 3A fifth district championship game against long time nemesis Marsh Valley as they led from start to finish for a 52-43 victory over the Lady Eagles.
"I knew that one of us would shoot the ball well tonight and it happened to be us," Snake River head coach Rich Dunn said. "Tonight was just one of those nights that we were ready. We weren't too pumped up and during our shoot around at four I told Mike [Kirkham] that we were ready. I could just feel it."
