Catch a Tiger by the tail, Blackfoot downs IF 58-55

BLACKFOOT — In a game that featured 6 ties and 7 lead changes, the Blackfoot Broncos found a way to take the last lead as they held off a game effort from 5A Idaho Falls with a 58-55 non-conference home victory on Friday evening.
"I was worried about tonight," Blackfoot head coach Dan Hale said. "In comes an Idaho Falls team that is winless on the year and our mental preparation was just zero. You let teams hang around long enough and they start to believe that they can beat you but I was proud of the way that the kids hung in there and battled through to the end to get the win."

Renaissance Fair continues tonight

Are you ready for a Renaissance Fair?
Come join the fun at 6:30 o'clock tonight on stage at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center (BPAC), 870 S. Fisher in Blackfoot.
Thirteenth century England is alive and well in Blackfoot. Banners and stained glass windows are hung on stage. Music, costumes, color, food and fun fill the evening.
The annual celebration incorporates the talents of the three choirs at Blackfoot High School (BHS)—Concert, Acappella and Madrigal.
Bart and Dana Brown are the king and queen of these festivities.

Ag industry becomes social savvy

Agriculture and social media go hand in hand these days as farmers, ranchers and ag companies throughout the state embrace social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest to communicate with consumers and business contacts. The trend was evident at the Idaho Potato Conference in Pocatello this week, as vendors were seen tapping on laptops, iPads and iPhones throughout the day.

No recall election despite rumors

BLACKFOOT — Rumors of a recall election(s) have been circulating.
"There is not a hint of a recall election at this time," said Marlene Jensen, the County Clerk's Election Director.
"People need to go through a lot of steps for a recall election," she said.
First, they need to request and then submit a start-up petition, Jensen said. The county clerk's office must verify the signatures collected.

Bobby 'Wayne' Whitehead, 70

Bobby “Wayne” Whitehead, 70, of Blackfoot slipped out of his room at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 and headed out early for his camping spot in the sky, to prepare for his family to follow.
Wayne was born May 19, 1942 in Big Springs, Texas, the ninth of 12 children born to Edward Erastus (Jack) Whitehead and Lomesia Thomas.  Wayne attended school in Texas and California and grew up with siblings as they followed the crops throughout the countryat harvest time on the back of a flatbed truck. 

Mable Pierce, 84

Mable Pierce of Fort Hall died Sunday Jan. 20, 2013 after a long battle with cancer.
Mable passed at the home of her daughter, surrounded by loved ones. She was 84 years old.
Mable moved to Fort Hall in 1959 with her husband Ed Pierce. They started an auto repair shop and expanded it into a salvage/wrecking yard, Ed’s Auto Wrecking.

BLACKFOOT — Like Bigfoot sightings in the Plaza home duel wrestling losses for the Blackfoot Broncos are extremely rare. In the first time in a long time that is exactly what happened on Wednesday evening however as High Country Conference foe Bonneville came into Blackfoot and left town with a 36-34 victory.

Panther senior wrestlers go out in style

RIVERSIDE — The Snake River grapplers met with the North Fremont and Malad teams Wednesday night at the Snake River gymnasium. The night was dedicated to the SR seniors and their accomplishments. The seniors are Jake Frost, SkyLerr Valentine, Jordan Campau, Shawn Turpin, Zane Stephenson, Logan Reynolds, Cash Cardona, Tyson Hansen, Carlos Molina, and Gunner Bott. Annie Whittier is the senior statistician and was also honored. When asked how he felt about this year’s seniors, Coach Gardner said, “they really came out and wrestled tonight. We asked them to work hard and they did. We had a great leadership from our seniors this year and they really helped the underclassmen along. We are going to take a big hit with them leaving after this year and it will be hard to fill their shoes.”

Officials give state of city, county addresses

City Council president Chris Jensen and Bingham County Commissioner Whitney Manwaring shared "state of the …." messages with members of the Greater Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday.
Among the accomplishments of city workers in 2012, Jensen said, were the completion of various road projects and of improvements at Jensen Grove.
They also added an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant lift in the swimming pool and completed a new water storage tank and booster station.
