Joann Chavez Chapman, 53

Joann Chavez Chapman, 53, of Twin Falls and formerly of Blackfoot ,passed away Jan. 14, 2013 at the St. Luke's Medical Center in Twin Falls.
She was born Jan. 29, 1960 in Hamilton, Mont., the daughter of Ernest M. and Janie C. Chavez.
She attended school in Blackfoot and graduated in 1978.
Joann resided in Twin Falls and also in Mesquite, Nev., and in Wisconsin.  She was married to Tom Ternus in 1982 and later divorced.   She married her companion of 22 years, Richard Chapman on Sept. 25, 2012 in Twin Falls.

Delores Shaw, 66

Delores Shaw, 66, of Blackfoot, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 at the Willows Care Center in Blackfoot.
She was born April 20, 1946 at Powell, Wyo., to Samuel and Filinice Martinez Chavez.
Delores attended the Jefferson School in Riverton, Wyo.  She has lived in Riverton and Lander, Wyo., and Pocatello and Blackfoot.
She married Berdie Shaw in Pocatello.  They were later divorced but have remained close friends.
She was a member of the Catholic Church.
Delores devoted her time and talents to raising her two daughters and making a home for them.

Robert Don (Bob) Jones, 70

Robert Don (Bob) Jones, 70, of Boise died peacefully on Jan. 18, 2013 of complications due to leukemia.
Robert was born Dec. 31. 1942 in Woodland, Utah to Don P and June Jones. In 1954 the family, which eventually totaled 4 boys and 4 girls, moved to Moreland. He graduated from Snake River High School in 1961. He then served as a missionary in the Eastern States Mission. In 1965 he was drafted into the Army during Vietnam.

AMY MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ, 31

Amy Michelle Rodriguez, age 31, of Pocatello, returned to her Father in Heaven on Thursday (Jan. 17, 2013) at Portneuf Medical Center.
She was a beloved wife of Jose Rodriguez. They were married on Aug. 29, 2009 in Pocatello. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Amy was born in Pocatello on July 18, 1981 and grew up in Blackfoot and Pocatello. She went to Blackfoot High School. She was the daughter of Allen York and Terri Palmer and stepdaughter of Kyle Palmer.

Blackfoot man missing in Arizona

Retired Blackfoot resident Laurence J. "Jack" Doering, 82, who has been wintering in the Yuma, Ariz. area with his life Leah, has been missing since Jan. 17. According to [Leah] Doering's daugher, Sandra Chamberlain, [Jack] Doering has suffered from Alzheimer's disease for the past four years and is likely "lost and confused."
The Yuma County Sheriff's Office reports that [Jack] Doering was last seen at the Foothills Plaza Shopping Center near Yuma on Thursday at approximately 9:45 a.m.

Ag Expo, potato conference come to Pocatello

Activities for the Eastern Idaho Ag Expo begin today.
The Ag Expo is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at Holt Arena.
Over 125 exhibitors are participating. On display are the latest in farm equipment, products and services. This is one of the largest equipment shows in the nation.
The Idaho Seed Potato Grower's Seminar, sponsored by the Idaho Crop Improvement Association, is from noon to 5 p.m. today at the Clarion Inn. Registration is from 11:30 a.m. to noon and costs $30 for person.

Pingree couple finds business they can involve family in

Scott and Melissa Merrill wanted a business/product they could involve their children in.
Eventually they settled upon a Murphy bed company which a Utah man had decided to sell.
"It's something we could do together," Scott said of building and selling the wall beds often seen in old movies.
"They're better than anything on the market and priced better than anyone else, too," he said.
According to Wikipedia, a Murphy bed is also called a pull down or fold-down bed. It is a bed that is hinged at one end to store vertically against the wall, or inside a closet or cabinet.

Blackfoot man charged with murder

A Blackfoot man is in the Bonneville County Jail charged with murder following the death of an Idaho Falls woman on Saturday.
According to Sheriff Paul Wilde, about 12:50 p.m. deputies responded to call that a woman had been shot and two men were running from the scene in the 5100 block of East Lincoln Road.
When deputies arrived, they found 21-year-old Kristy M. Aschliman just off the road. They rendered first aid but paramedics determined that she was dead. Her vehicle was stuck in the snow 50 yards from the scene.

Local grapplers fare well at Tiger-Grizz

IDAHO FALLS — With the spot light shining on center mat four Bingham County grapplers took center stage in the finals of the prestigious Tiger-Grizz wrestling tournament on Saturday evening. Shelley's Chase Call led the charge with a commanding 14-7 decision over Columbia's Tomaz Gonzales in the 138 finals as the senior led from start to finish for the win.
"Winning this tournament has been a goal of mine since I was a freshman," Call said. "All of those years working in the wrestling room paid off. I came in just wanting to wrestle position and just do what I've been taught. I want to thank all of my coaches, friends and especially my family for helping me."

Finally! Broncos erupt for win over Indians

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Broncos have been oh, so close thus far on the basketball season, losing 6 games by 5 points or less. One of those earlier season close losses were to Pocatello and on Friday evening the Broncos welcomed the Indians to town looking to avenge that loss in front of the home crowd.
Unlike the first game with the Indians Friday nights contest was never in doubt as Blackfoot took out their collective frustrations by leading start to finish in a convincing 68-55 victory.
