Texas hospital ordered to remove life support from pregnant, brain-dead woman

FORT WORTH, Texas – A judge on Friday ordered a Texas hospital to remove life support for a pregnant, brain-dead woman whose family had argued that she would not want to be kept in that condition.
Judge R. H. Wallace Jr. issued the ruling in the case of Marlise Munoz. John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth has been keeping Munoz on life support against her family's wishes. The judge gave the hospital until 5 p.m. CST Monday to remove life support.

No charges against shooter who killed hunting dog

BLACKFOOT — Bingham County Prosecuting Attorney Cleve Colson announced Thursday that after careful consideration of the facts that led to the death of a hunting dog in Bingham County, there is no current law in Idaho that would make the events leading up to the dog's death a crime.
The hunting dog was named Gunner.
According to reports, a hunting dog was shot and killed on Dec. 8, 2013, in the Springfield area in Bingham County.
Colson said, "In Idaho, we have a cruelty to animals law (Idaho Code §25-3504), that makes it a crime to maliciously kill an animal."

Blackfoot woman finds mold in Capri Sun

BLACKFOOT—Blackfoot woman Melissa Martinez was shocked and disgusted to find globs of what appeared to be mold or fungus in her daughter's Capri Sun juice pouch on Tuesday.
Martinez said her daughter Millie (4) took a Capri Sun foil pouch from one of the two boxes that she had purchased at Ridley's in Blackfoot. Upon taking a sip, Millie turned up her nose and said, "This tastes gross!"

21st Grant to expire

BLACKFOOT — Co-founder and director of the Blackfoot Community Center (BCC), Ashlee Howell, came forth during the school board meeting, on Thursday, to report that their 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) program grant is coming to a close.
The 21st CCLC is authorized under Title IV, Part B, of the No Child Left Behind Act. It is conducted through the Idaho State Department of Education, as funding allows.

1 dead in Idaho Falls crash

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho -A woman died in a one-vehicle crash early Friday morning.
Around 12:50 a.m., a 2007 silver Toyota Scion was traveling south down South Fifth West at a high speed. A male and female were inside the car.
The driver lost control and struck landscaping boulders on the east side of the road.
The female was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the crash. The male was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by ambulance and is in critical condition, Idaho Falls police said.
Police said they do not know who was driving the car. The crash is under investigation.

Ly's Nail Salon raises money for students at Ridge Crest

BLACKFOOT — Collecting a dollar at a time, Ly Young at Ly's Nail Salon and her customers raised money to buy winter coats for students at Ridge Crest Elementary in Blackfoot.
"We live right behind the school," Young said. "Some kids couldn't come outside the school to play because they didn't have a winter coat."
That's when she decided to sponsor this fund raiser.
Young asked her patrons if they would contribute $1 toward purchasing coats for Ridge Crest students. The fund raiser started the week before Christmas and concluded Thursday.

Tobey, Clarke combine for 44 in Broncos win over Bees

BLACKFOOT — Morningrose Tobey and Cassandra Clarke combined to score 44 points as Blackfoot earned a big 4A District 5/6 win over Bonneville 56-42 Thursday night at Blackfoot High School.
Tobey, who was celebrating her 17th birthday Thursday was the spark plug for the Broncos on both ends of the floor, while Clarke continued her aggressive play from the last few games.
