Vernieda Nagashoah Faulkner, 65

Verrnieda Nagashoah Faulkner, 65, died Jan 23 at her home in Gibson.
She was born May 17, v1949 to Lucille Pocatello and Joe Nagashoah. She grew up in the Gibson area of the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. She attended loco schools and also went to boarding school in Oklahoma. Vernieda graduated from the Culinary Arts School at Idaho State University. She enjoyed cooking and welcomed many people to her table over the years.
Vernieda married Perry LeRoy Faulkner on Feb 8, 1968 and to this union were born four children.

Joseph Eldon Grimmett, 13

Joseph Eldon Grimmett 13, of Blackfoot passed away January 24, 2014 at his home.     
He was born August 21, 2000 in Blackfoot, Idaho the son of Eldon M. Grimmett and Lucrecia A. Rossi.            
Joseph attended Snake River School District and was currently attending Mountain View Middle School in Blackfoot.           

Margaret Williams Lapray

IVINS, Utah - Margaret W. Lapray, 83, passed away on Jan. 22, 2014, peacefully at her home in Ivins, Utah. 
She was born Oct. 6, 1930 in Thomas, Idaho. 
She was the seventh of 12 children born to Cornelious and Gertrude Williams.  She attended Idaho State University and graduated from Utah State University.  She was a school teacher. 

June Gines Jones, 93

June Gines Jones, beloved mother, grandma, great-grandma, and sister passed away January 24, 2014 in Blackfoot, Idaho.

June was born June 6, 1920 in Woodland, Utah to Clifton Gines and Francis Ellen Chamberlain.  She was the second child in a family of seven.

Fresh produce and other goods roll through town

BLACKFOOT — Fresh produce, eggs, bread and other wholesome products are now rolling through Blackfoot, Springfield and other area communities weekly on a 53-foot trailer - all for the ever growing frugal and health conscious consumer. This new delivery service - Provident Produce - is manned by husband and wife team John and Kasenya Fisher of Pocatello, and is similar to Bountiful Baskets, but with some marked differences.

Nelson’s three in overtime earns Russets season sweep of Panthers

THOMAS — Another game for the ages.
That phrase accurately describes each meeting between the Shelley and Snake River boys basketball teams in recent years, Saturday night's second meeting of the season was no different.
A huge block on a potential game-winning shot by Tyler Fredrickson in the final seconds of regulation sent the game into overtime.
In the overtime Bracken Nelson nailed the go ahead three-pointer with 24.8 seconds left as the Russets earned the season sweep of the defending 3A state champion Panthers 62-59 Saturday night at Snake River High School.

Blackfoot’s Sargent takes home Red Halverson Invite title

RUPERT — Bryant Sargent's first place finish at 170 pounds capped of an eighth place finish for the Blackfoot wrestling team at the Red Halverson Memorial Wrestling Invite at Minico High School on Saturday.
Sargent defeated Bonneville's Jared Bird in the finals of the 170 pound classification.

County wrestlers have success in Sugar City

SUGAR CITY — The Firth Cougars wrestling team was one of four Bingham County schools that participated in the John Berry Classic Sugar Invitational at Sugar-Salem High School last weekend and the Cougars finished the two-day tournament in seventh place to lead the results for the county schools.
Layton Wasia kept his undefeated record intact after taking down Teton's Tristan Hansen in the 145 pound final.
Coltyr Brewington came home second in the 285 pound division, while Luke Madsen and Clay Elkington finished the weekend with third place finishes.

Bees run past Broncos 73-51

BLACKFOOT — When the Blackfoot and Bonneville basketball teams met in Iona on Dec. 18, the Broncos let a lead slip away in the final two minutes before falling by seven.
Friday night the top ranked team in the 4A ranks made the trip south to Blackfoot for the seasons second and final meeting.
The Broncos who came into the game on a six-game losing also needed to find a way to stop the Bees Jared Stutzman and Telly Davenport.
After one quarter the Bees duo established the control of the game scoring 23 of the Bees 25 first quarter points on the way to a 73-51 victory.

2014 Relay for Life theme announced

BLACKFOOT — "Be Someone's Hero" is the 2014 Relay for Life theme and the team in charge of decorating the Luminaria bags is hard at work making sure the bags are as special as ever.
"This event is so important for our community here in Blackfoot and we want to help make this year's Relay for Life extra special," said Relay for Life committee member Suzette Martinez.
Families or individuals purchase these special bags to honor loved ones who have lost the battle against cancer or for those who are still battling, by choosing a bag and putting the name of the loved one on the back.
