Mayor shares insights with Cub Scouts

Four Cub Scouts chosen for their questions learned about city government from a special teacher on Wednesday.
Blackfoot Mayor Paul Loomis answered the boys' questions during a meeting in the city council chambers, then shared a lunch with them, some parents and siblings. The Blackfoot Elks Lodge sponsored the lunch.
Loomis began with an explanation of the workings of city government. He asked the boys about the recent issue of "should we allow dogs in the city cemetery?"
After his presentation, the boys voted 3-1 to forbid dogs there, much as the city council had done.

Allan Mills, 64

Allan was born Oct. 30, 1949 in Gooding, Idaho to Ward Mills and Thelma Dille. 
He was raised in Shoshone, attending grade school and high school there and enjoyed playing football. 
After high school, Allan attended Idaho State University for a short period of time, where he met and married Glenda VanSickle.  They had three children, Brian, Dena and Neil and were later divorced.  He moved to Blackfoot 35 years ago.

Local band to perform at celebration concert

The local band "HiWay 91" will celebrate the release of their first CD titled "Riding Away" with an outdoor performance on Saturday at 7 p.m. during the first annual "Stinger's (Bar & Grill) Bike Week and Summer Concert," in Blackfoot.
The band members will dedicate the CD to the late Keith Tarpley of Blackfoot, who helped start the band in 2012. Tarpley, was electrocuted two years in a Groveland canal - an accident that also claimed the lives of his future daughter-in-law Jackie Poulson and his friend Lance Hicks.

Through the saving grace of our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, the eternal spirit of  Robert Harlow Hendricks, peacefully passed from his 90 year old body, to immortality on July 26, 2014.  He is free again to enjoy the company of his beloved wife, parents and loved ones who preceded him to paradise.

Pocatello airport schedules weekend airshow

Last year, the government sequestration shut down the Pocatello Airport's annual "Airport Appreciation Days." So, this year, airport officials are making up for it by hosting a bigger and better event: "SkyFest" this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
"We have really stepped it up this year. We want to offer an event that will expose the community to the airport environment," said Pocatello's airport manager, David Allen. "This will be an exciting "open house" type of event with something for everyone."

Arthur James Jones, 92, of Blackfoot, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2014, in Idaho Falls.  He was born March 15, 1922, in Sandy, Utah, the oldest of nine children of Evan Arthur and Edna Evans Wood Jones.

Long distance bike ride in honor of track coach concludes

POCATELLO-A bike ride across the state by Mattie Mulick and Norah Parkinson, two friends and former teammates of the late Jackie Poulson (Blackfoot resident and Idaho State University track coach), came to an end at ISU's Davis Field on Saturday afternoon.
Poulson was tragically electrocuted two years ago in the Groveland area. Her future father-in-law Keith Tarpley and friend Lance Hicks also died in the accident.

Local Catholic priest officially installed as church pastor of two parishes

BLACKFOOT — After serving the Blackfoot and Fort Hall communities since 2011, Father Jose´ de Jesus Gonzalez was officially installed as the pastor of Blackfoot's St. Bernard's Catholic Church and Fort Hall's St. Kateri's Catholic Church at a special mass at St. Bernard's on Friday. This means that the church's bishop [Michael Driscoll of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Boise] has entrusted Gonzalez with the two parishes and that he [Gonzalez] will serve in the area for at least six more years.
