BLACKFOOT — Approximately 90 men, women and children walked a mile through downtown Blackfoot on Saturday to speak out against sexual assault and gender violence in the first "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event. Participants raised and donated more than $3,600 for the Bingham Crisis Center.
April 15th
BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot High School students swept the cabinet-making competition in the Idaho Skills USA competition April 7 and 8 in Boise.
Senior Dallin Evans placed first; senior Taylor Sandow placed second and Cody Cunningham placed third.
This is the ninth year in a row that a BHS cabinetry student has placed first at state. The top winner in each category qualifies to compete at the national level of Skills USA June 20-25 in Kansas City, Mo.
At the national level, Evans will be competing against 45 or 46 state winners, said BHS vocational cabinet teacher, Pete Golinveaux.
BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot School Board of Trustees held a special meeting Friday to address district policies that conflict with newly-passed state laws.
The board approved a resolution on a 3-2 vote revoking portions of 18 board policies regarding personnel now in conflict with laws passed and enacted during the legislative session. The policies include suspension of employees, recruitment of certificated employees, employment contracts, extra-duty assignments, and the release, evaluation and probation of certificated employees.
BLACKFOOT — Idaho's legislators had plenty to consider during the recently completed session of the state legislature. Trying to wrap up their accomplishments isn't an easy task.
But Sen. Steve Bair and Reps. Dennis Lake tried to do so for those who participated in the Greater Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce's legislative breakfast on Thursday.
"We revisited the Right to Farm bill," Bair noted. He pointed out that the bill exempts bigger farms from being declared nuisances so long as their owners remain compliant with existing regulations.

FIRTH — Behind the strong arm of freshman hurler Conner Montgomery, the Firth Cougars remained unbeaten on the year with a solid 9-0 conference win over West Jefferson on Thursday afternoon.
Montgomery set the tone early as he needed just 10 pitches to sit down the Panther hitters in the first two innings combined.
That dominance continued throughout the contest as the talented youngster picked up a complete game win as he scattered just 3 hits on the afternoon.
FIRTH — Kelsey Oliver carried a no-hit bid into the sixth inning and the Lady Cougar bats erupted for 10 runs on 9 hits as Firth remained undefeated in conference play with a 10-0 victory over long time rival West Jefferson on Thursday afternoon.
"I'm just real proud of the girls today," Firth head coach Rachel Olsen said. "We have put in a lot of time in the snow and the rain just waiting for it to click and I am just happy that it clicked today."
BLACKFOOT — A Blackfoot man died after an early morning crash Thursday that resulted in his vehicle catching fire.
Tobie Robinson, 23, of Blackfoot, was traveling northbound on Highway 91 in a 1995 Acura Legend at approximately 2:30 a.m. when for unknown reasons his vehicle went off the right side of the roadway near Shilling Street, according to the Idaho State Police. Robinson's vehicle came to rest on the embankment of the Blackfoot River. He was wearing his seatbelt and was trapped inside his vehicle as it started on fire, ISP said.

THOMAS — The Snake River Community Orchestra will perform music from the popular Broadway musical "The Scarlet Pimpernel" for its spring concert Friday and Saturday.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $5. All proceeds will benefit Snake River Fine Arts.
The orchestra will be accompanied by a chorus. There will be three talented vocal soloists—John Grayson, Curtis VanOrden and Sarah Jackson.
BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot High School Basketball Coach Jonathan Packer said he was informed this week by the administration at the school that they will not seek to renew his coaching contract next year. Packer coaches boys' varsity basketball.
Packer said he met with Ben Speelmon, the man hired in January to serve as an educational consultant in the absence of Principal Blaine McInelly, and Athletic Director Brian Flake Tuesday afternoon.
THOMAS — Cole Rushton and the rest of the Snake River Panthers were walking quietly and carrying a very big stick on Wednesday afternoon, scoring 17 runs on 15 hits in a 17-5 demolition of conference rival Marsh Valley.
"We hit the ball good and did a good job of playing a baseball game in just terrible weather," Snake River head coach James Carter said. "I hate playing baseball in this kind of weather but the kids did a great job of staying focused through it."
