BLACKFOOT â€” As Shelley native, Tanner Higham stood on the eighteenth tee box he held a slim one shot lead over soon to be pro Jimmy Burnett. After an errant tee shot into the pond on the right side of the fairway, Higham's shot at a Von Elm Golf Championship came crashing down as Burnett's second day 66 carried him to the 2012 championship.
"I knew that Tanner was one shot ahead when I was on eighteen and I had a ten footer for birdie which I thought that I would have to have but Tanner kind of helped me out a bit," Jimmy Burnett said.
BLACKFOOT â€“ Blackfoot Community Center (BCC) received two grants last week. One grant was from the Bistline Foundation Fund and the other was received from the CHC Foundation, Inc.
BCC received a grant for $3,000 from the F.M. and Anne G. and Beverly B. Bistline Foundation Fund in the Idaho Community Foundation to purchase exhibits for the art and music rooms of BCCâ€™s Childrenâ€™s Museum of Idaho.
â€śWe are fortunate to receive the Bistline Grant,â€ť said Ashlee Howell, Director of BCC. â€śThe grant money will be used to expand the childrenâ€™s theater.
No one sustained injuries Friday afternoon when a pickup hauling a trailer and boat rolled on Interstate 15 about milepost 83.
The pickup was driven by a 40-year-old male. He and his wife were not injured in the accident.
The pickup with Fremont County plates was headed south on I-15. The accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Friday.
The trailer and boat were attached to the pickup. As the trailer and boat began to fishtail, the driver slowed down.
The momentum of the trailer and boat caused the pickup to roll.
The Idaho Attorney General's office received authority to take over a criminal investigation of Bingham Memorial Hospital on Friday.
"We will conduct a thorough and deliberate investigation," said Robert Cooper, Director of Constituent Information & Communication with the Attorney General's office.
"I understand there is a great deal of interest in Blackfoot about this investigation in Blackfoot," he said. "There is no target date.
"We expect this investigation will take weeks and months rather than a few days," Cooper said.
BLACKFOOT â€” Elementary school age migrant students are enjoying an educational blend of Mexican and American culture at the Idaho Migrant - English Language Learners (ELL) summer school program currently underway at Ridge Crest Elementary School.
SUGAR CITY â€” Cash Cardona hit a grand slam home run and the Panthers got complete game pitching efforts from Cardona and Shane Parkinson as they swept a road double header at Sugar City on Wednesday afternoon.
Parkinson got the day off on the right foot as he worked a complete seven innings, scattering 5 hits while striking out 12 in a 6-1 opening game victory.
"Shane was dominant in the first game and when he is on, like he was today he is more than capable of dominating," Snake River head coach Tom Strickland said.
It was a Facebook message retrieved at midnight that held the good news that 18-year-old Cameron Baker of Blackfoot had been waiting and hoping to hear...leaving him shocked, excited and unable to sleep!
Baker, a vocalist and recent graduate of Blackfoot High School, learned via Facebook that the audition tape of the original music he had sent to The Complex (a large concert venue in Salt Lake City) landed him and his pianist, Blackfoot High School student Josh Spencer, a gig as one of two opening acts at the Dia Frampton concert in Salt Lake City next Tuesday night.
BLACKFOOTâ€”Disappointment did not cross Stephanie Palmer's mind when she didn't win one of three vans given away by the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) which gave away three 2012 wheelchair-accessible vehicles last month. Instead Palmer expressed her amazement and gratitude, "I was truly blown away by the support I received." With over 22,000 votes, Palmer came in 14th place and was in the top 3 percent to be considered for the vehicle.
BLACKFOOTâ€”Chaune Bumgarner has an eye for art and the endless capacity to love children. That is why Bumgarner is thrilled to present "Art by Kids" first ever art show Thursday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The 37 students will be showcasing five to seven of their best pieces including brightly colored art of dinosaurs, fairies, flowers and abstract images in various different mediums.
BLACKFOOT â€” The Blackfoot Broncos and the Bonneville Bees combined for 46 runs, 49 hits and well over five hours of baseball on Tuesday evening and at the end of the marathon day on the diamond, the two teams split the double header, with Bonneville winning 9-7 in game one and Blackfoot rebounding for a 19-11 win in the nightcap.
"Whenever you see Bonneville on the schedule it just sort of amps everything up," Blackfoot head coach Jeff Katseanes said. "To pick up a split is huge. Both teams are very good and I have to say, I like the way that our team are playing."
