Pilster dumps 33 in Bronco win over Indians

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Broncos got 33 points from senior Trae Pilster as they avenged their season opening loss at Pocatello with a hard fought 64-51 home win over the Indians on Saturday evening.
"I think that the difference tonight was that we just have a lot more games under our belts and we are starting to get used to playing together," Pilster said. "As the season has gone along we continue to get better and better each week and we played really good team basketball tonight."

Lady Panthers smother Lady Bears

POCATELLO — The Snake River Lady Panthers may want to consider a mascot name change from the Panthers to the Pythons because on Saturday afternoons opening round 37-26 win over Bear Lake, the Ladies in Purple simply squeezed the life out of the Bears in one of the more impressive defensive efforts of the season.
"From start to finish the kids just came out and pressured them all over the court," Snake River head coach Rich Dunn said. "I don't think that they felt any fresh air all night long to breath in and it all started with our bigs down low."

Colson running for Bingham County Prosecutor

Attorney Cleve Colson has announced that he is running for the office of Bingham County Prosecuting Attorney.
Colson is a lifelong resident of Bingham County. He began his career at the Bannock County Prosecutor’s Office in 2005 and is currently Bannock County’s assistant chief deputy prosecutor.

REXBURG — The Blackfoot Broncos showed a ton of grit on Friday evening as they fell behind by double-digits to the Madison Bobcats but never quit, eventually pulling to within 2 points in the final minutes. The comeback stalled out however as Madison held off the Blackfoot rally with a 52-47 High Country Conference victory.
"That's one of the things that I just love about this team," Blackfoot assistant coach Jared Arave said. "This team just doesn't lay down and die. We could have easily lost by 20 points tonight but they just keep fighting."

Fundraisers scheduled for Shelley teacher

Hobbs Middle School teacher Jill Wray is undergoing treatments for cancer. She teaches home economics and science.
Three boys in Natural Helpers decided they could help Wray and her family, said Teresa Dye, the club's advisor at Shelley High School.
"They wanted to let them know that we care," Dye said.
The 22 students in the Natural Helpers class at Shelley High School had been challenged to make "an ultimate gift."
Two businesses are donating to the Wray fundraiser.

Former Blackfoot doctor helps sick local woman

Dr. Heather Bourkovski, a former resident of Blackfoot, is giving a local woman an incredible opportunity. Bourkovski bought a plane ticket for Brady Meline, a sufferer of rare heart problems. Bourkovski’s generosity will allow Meline to travel to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, to seek specialized treatment for her condition.

Micron chairman and CEO killed in plane crash

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The head of memory chip maker Micron long known for taking risks in stunt piloting died Friday when a small experimental plane he was piloting steeply banked, stalled and crashed near an Idaho runway.

Steve Appleton, who survived a similar crash eight years ago and had a reputation as a hard-driving daredevil, was the only person aboard the plane when witnesses said it crashed shortly after its second take-off attempt in Boise, according to safety investigators.

Broncos roll to third win in two days

SHELLEY — The Blackfoot Broncos picked up their third duel win in two days time as they took advantage of a short handed Shelley Russet squad with a convincing 69-12 team win on Thursday evening.
The win came on the heels of a tri-match sweep over Century and Pocatello on Wednesday night where they pounded the Diamondbacks 61-22 and then closed out a game Indian squad 40-27.

Panthers nip Cougars for third win in two days

FIRTH — The Firth Cougars celebrated senior night but in the end it was the Snake River Panthers who picked up the duel win on Thursday evening as the Panthers won the cat fight 41-36.
"It was a tough match but I knew that it would be because Firth has a quality program," Snake River head coach Jeff Gardner said. "We had a couple of key matches to get the team win with Kaden Bench at 120 and Manny Trejo at 170."
Bench, who normally wrestles at 113 moved up to 120 for the Panthers on on Thursday evening and he came up aces with a hard fought 8-2 decision over Jackson Thompson.

Hillcrest ends Blackfoot season

AMMON — The Blackfoot Lady Broncos got 23 points from junior point guard Kylie Coby but in the end, a big Hillcrest second quarter proved too much to overcome as Blackfoot's season came to an end with a 76-60 to the Lady Knights in the Dungeon.
"We just never could recover once we got down by eleven in that second quarter," Blackfoot head coach Merle Smith said. "Kylie had a great night and she is the point guard of the future for us but now we just have to get that mental attitude and belief that we can win games like these."
