Donna Belle Reed Benson, 90, died Jan. 2, 2012, with her family by her side at her granddaughterâ€™s home in Stansbury Park, Utah.
Donna was born on Oct. 30, 1921 in Iona to Albert C. and Ivy Bernice Scoresby Reed.Â Her father was the only person in his family to join the LDS Church, and after moving west from Pennsylvania, he met Ivy.
Lowell A. Dance, former Bingham County Assessor and former judge for the State of Idaho Ad Valorem Tax Court of Appeals, died in his sleep Jan. 1, 2012.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1926 at Thomas, the son of William Dance and Mary Anderson Dance. He attended Wilson Grade School, Moreland High School and Ricks College. His education at Ricks College was interrupted by World War II. He entered the United States Army in 1944. After heavy artillery and radio repair training, he served in the 985th Signal Service Company in Italy during the closing months of the war.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) â€” Mitt Romney eked out a minuscule 8-vote victory over Rick Santorum in Iowa's Republican presidential caucuses, the state party chairman said early Wednesday, ringing down the curtain on an improbable first act in the campaign to pick a challenger to President Barack Obama in the fall.
Appearing hours after the caucuses had ended, Matt Strawn said Romney had 30,015 votes, to 30,007 for Santorum, whose late surge carried him to a near win.

BLACKFOOT â€” Shaden Leland Ross Walters was sentenced to probation and
fined $1,355.50 Monday by Bingham County Seventh Judicial Judge Darren
On May 23, 2011, Walters, age 19, and co-defendant Chris Nelson were
charged with burglary. The pair were charged with stealing from Todd
On Oct. 3, Walters pleaded not guilty to the burglary charge and then
changed his plea to guilty on Nov. 14.
In Walters' plea deal, the prosecuting attorney, the defense attorney
and the pre-sentence investigator agreed that Walters was a good
BLACKFOOT â€” The Blackfoot City Council unanimously voted to amend the ordinance requiring a majority vote for the election of city council members. Now, only a plurality vote is required.
A majority is still required in mayoral elections and a runoff election will follow if no candidate receives a majority of the vote.
In discussing the proposed changes, newly elected Council President Chris Jensen and Councilman Farrell Cammack both said they favored requiring a plurality vote for election of council members but said the mayor should still be elected by a majority vote.

Diana Suzanne Myers, 55, of Blackfoot lost her battle with cancer on Dec. 26, 2011, surrounded by her family at home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1110 Parkway Dr., Blackfoot.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, memorial contributions mayÂ be made to the Humane Society.

Lowell Anderson Dance, 85, of Blackfoot, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012 at Heritage Homes Assisted Living in Rexburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 at the Blackfoot LDS 2nd Ward building, 660 Teton Road in Blackfoot. A viewing will be held Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling in Blackfoot, and again on Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas cemetery where final military rites will be presented by American Legion Stewart Hoover Post #23.
