Jacob Carsten Colbo, 18, of Blackfoot passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born Sept. 30, 1992 in Spokane, Wash., to Michael and Linda Lou Young Colbo. He attended elementary school in Blackfoot and high school at Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, Ore.
During his lifetime he has lived in Hood River and Corvallis, Ore., and Blackfoot.
Jacob was currently working at Basic American Food.
Marie K. Spraker, 96, passed away in Sandpoint on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011.
Funeral services will be announced later.
Marie was born on Dec. 30, 1914 in Mountain Home, the daughter of Bill and Esther Caldwell. She was the oldest of four children and was a funloving Irish lass who loved to dance.
On February 15, 1937 she married Bill Spraker in Blackfoot. For many years she worked with her sisterat the Atomic Energy Site near Idaho Falls. She and Bill owned a small farm at Blackfoot where they raised purebred Charolais cattle.
Norma Robertson Howell, 88, a lifelong resident of Blackfoot, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011.
Norma was born March 27, 1923, to C. Clifford and Gwyn Williams Robertson. She lived her entire life on or near South Shilling Avenue. She graduated from Blackfoot schools and attended ISC (ISU). She spent many happy days in her youth helping on the family farm and small dairy, delivering milk to the porches of neighbors and customers.
Randy Rodriguez, Jr., 3-day-old infant son of Analicia Contreras and Randy Rodriguez Sr., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Bingham Memorial Hospital.
Randy was born Sept. 17, 2011, in Blackfoot.
Though his days were short on this earth, he was loved and left a lasting imprint on the hearts of his family.
BLACKFOOT â€” It has been over 70 years since Bill Twitchell made the winning basket to lead Blackfoot High School to an Idaho state basketball championship.
Since then Twitchell has been a collegiate athlete, a soldier, a coach and a horseman. He has also worked on a movie set and he and his wife, the former Dorothy Jane Wray, have travelled extensively.
"The one thing I learned from my dad was, 'son, give it 110 percent and you'll always have a job," Twitchell said.
THOMAS â€” The Snake River School Board of Trustees approved all one-year contracts for teachers and extracurricular and special assignment contracts for the 2011-2012 school year at their meeting Wednesday night.
All certified employees within the district not eligible for a continuing contract were placed on a one-year contract, set to expire in June 2012. Superintendent Russell Hammond said they chose not to offer two-year contracts in hopes that salaries may be increased next year with a new contract.
Threat made to Blackfoot schools a hoax
BLACKFOOT â€” A threat made against schools in Blackfoot Monday night was found to be a hoax, police said Wednesday.
Law enforcement was notified of the threat Monday night from a citizen who had heard an individual speaking into a cell phone, Lt. Paul Newbold with the Blackfoot Police Department said. The threat was related to a school shooting and was targeted toward students in the sixth through twelfth grades, Newbold said.
BLACKFOOT â€” Organizers of the Blackfoot Community Garden are asking the public to help prevent thefts from the garden.
People who are seeking to help themselvesâ€”whether it is through lowering grocery bills or providing their families with nutritional fruits and vegetables have tended to the garden, which consists of approximately 15 private plots.
This week, approximately $1,000 worth of produce grown in the garden was taken, said Lee Hammett, Community Dinner Table board member. The Community Garden is an extension of the Community Dinner Table.
Paul Raymond Berggren, 77, of Blackfoot passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.Â
Paul was born Dec. 25, 1933, in Blackfoot to Robert Berggren and Myrtle Sunquist Berggren.Â He attended Lavaside Grade School and graduated from Firth High School in 1951.
On Sept. 17, 1957 Paul married Patricia McNutt.Â Together they had two children, Robert and Carol.Â Patricia preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 1997.Â On Aug. 14, 1999, he married Francisca Barbosa in Twin Falls.Â
Paul was a member of the Firth Tabernacle Assembly of God Church in Firth.Â
On Sept. 18, 2011, Cathy Ellen (Nii) Warren, of Boise, began her journey to Heaven after a brief but furious battle with gall bladder cancer.
Cathy was born on May 16, 1953 in Idaho Falls to Tsuneo and Amy Nii, the first of six children. She was raised on her familyâ€™s farm near Pingree and graduated from Snake River High School in 1971. She completed her formal education by earning an Associate Degree from Ricks College in Rexburg.
