Maxine Edwards, 66

April 25, 2011

Maxine Jane Hunt Edwards, 66, of Blackfoot, Idaho, passed away April 21, 2011, at Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot following a lingering illness.
Maxine was born March 11, 1945, in Portland, Ore., to John Vernal Hunt and Mildred Jane Oakey Hunt. She grew up in Roberts and attended schools there.
On Nov. 8, 1968, she married LeRoy Don Edwards in Idaho Falls. They made their home in Osgood and Idaho Falls. Maxine was a homemaker, wife and mother.

Bobbie Lou Hansen, 82

Bobbie Lou Hansen, 82, of Blackfoot passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at the Bingham Memorial Hospital.
Bobbie Lou was born Aug. 16, 1928 in Central, Idaho, to Wilford and Matilda Andersen. She was the sixth of seven children. She came from a close-knit family who shared the joys and struggles of farm life. She graduated from Grace High School in 1946.

Marjorie Wilma Doig, 76

Marjorie Wilma Doig, 76, of Blackfoot, passed away Friday, April 22, 2011, at The Gables in Shelley of an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 5, 1934, in White Sulfur Springs, Mont., the daughter of Robert Jess and Anis Hilary Ailey. She was raised by her stepmother Ruth Louise Ailey.
Wilma was raised and educated in White Sulfur Springs.
On Sept. 4, 1951, she married William “Bill” Doig in Livingston, Mont.
They lived in Big Timber, Livingston, and White Sulfur Springs, Mont., and moved to Blackfoot in 1963.

Munger claims Firth DYW crown

FIRTH — The six Distinguished Young Woman candidates at Firth took the stage with beauty and grace on Saturday evening.
Ashli Munger claimed the 2012 DYW title. Krista Holm was runnerup.
Besides Munger and Holm, Madalina Marie High, Charity Dawn Tew, Jeull Snedigar and Jennifer Ashley Mejia were the other competitors.
DYW was formerly known as America’s Junior Miss. The named was changed in June 2010.
Emily Fielding, the 2011 Firth Junior Miss, will be the last young lady in town to carry that title.

Broncos swat 3 dingers in split at Madison

REXBURG — The Blackfoot Broncos got a trio of home runs on Saturday afternoon from Dallas Bitton, Shawn Whitehead and Colby Pearson as they shrugged off a sloppy first game and split the double-header at Madison by cruising to a 11-1 win in the nightcap.
"That second game we came out and played baseball the way that we know that we can play," Blackfoot head coach Kenny Dahle said. "Top to bottom I thought that the kids did a tremendous job."

"Everyday Heroes" honored at Moreland Elementary

MORELAND — "Everyday Heroes" are recognized each month at Moreland Elementary.
Last Wednesday, Julie Wada, president of the Moreland PTA and the PTA board members, were recognized as "Everyday Heroes" for their contributions to students at Moreland Elementary throughout this school year.
"I have 13 on my board," Wada said. "For each person, there are four or five other people behind her."
PTA members contributed 304 hours to activities at the school.
"Reading with a Relative" was one of these activities. This reading activity took place on March 30 and 31.

Blackfoot softball splits with Idaho Falls

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Lady Broncos welcomed the Lady Tigers of Idaho Falls to town on Friday afternoon for a remake of an earlier season rain out. On the diamond the two teams played a pair of starkly different contests with Blackfoot winning game one in classic fashion 6-1 and Idaho Falls out slugging Blackfoot 21-11 in the nightcap.
Jessica Capson got the call in the circle in game one and the sophomore picked up right where she left off during her win on Thursday as she picked up the win by working a complete game, scattering 5 hits while striking out 8.

cowboys and cowgirls brave cold

POCATELLO — Night three of a twelve night grind on the High School Rodeo circuit came to a frigid conclusion on Friday night as the 4th districts best cowboys and cowgirls battled the cold temperatures, the livestock and each other at Bannock County Fairgrounds.
The barrel racers opened the festivities with a pair of familiar faces finishing 1-2 as American Falls junior Kimberlyn Fehringer crossed the line with a time of 17.159, narrowly edging out Highland senior Shelby Freed who finished with a time of 17.180.

Service arrangements are pending and will be announced by Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot.
