POCATELLO â Ralph F. Dixey, Jr., 74, passed away Friday, April 8, 2011. at the Pocatello Care and Rehab Center.
He was born Aug. 4, 1936 in Fort Hall to Ralph F. Dixey, Sr. and Virgie Gibson Dixey. He has lived his entire life in the Gibson area of Fort Hall. He attended school in Blackfoot and Chemawa Indian School in Salem, Ore.
In February, 1959, he married Daisy Wenee at Fort Hall.
Ralph served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, aboard the U.S.S. Richard B. Anderson.
Lynn M. Wolfley, 89, of Riverside passed away April 8, 2011, in Blackfoot, five days after his lifelong companion of 70 years, at The Willows Assisted Living Center.
Lynn was born May 12, 1921, in Etna, Wyo., the youngest of 11 children to Henry Louise and Jeanette May McGavin Wolfley. He attended first through eighth grade in Etna and graduated from Moreland High School in 1940, where he excelled as a boxer.
Arlin D Taylor, 94, of Firth passed away at his home on April 8, 2011. of natural causes.
BLACKFOOT â The Relay for Life season is well underway with several great teams sponsoring some fun and unique fundraisers, but more teams are needed to make the event a success and to raise money for cancer research.
Teams who participate attend the overnight carnival-type event June 17-18 where there is great entertainment, food and fun. Teams also have the opportunity to celebrate cancer survivors as they lead the all-night walk around the track and participate in the moving luminaria ceremony at dark.
BLACKFOOT âÂ The cast is ready; the stage is set. The musical, âAladdin Junior,â opens at 7 p.m. Friday at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center (BPAC).
The musical runs through Friday, April 22, except Sunday and Wednesday.
With a cast of 40 Blackfoot High School (BHS) students, Agrabah, City of Enchantment, comes to life.

BLACKFOOT â A local business has received a little help from five mechanical engineering students from Brigham Young University-Idaho.
In 2009, Dawn Enterprises received a new Department of Defense contract to construct a lightweight flame-resistant hood for soldiers fighting in the Middle East. It is anticipated that during the 2011-2012 fiscal year, Dawn Enterprises will deliver 200,000 of these lightweight performance hoods.
The problem with the new lightweight hood is that it consists of two layersâan inner and outer layer made of two different types of fabric.
BLACKFOOT â The possibility of making compost (dirt) out of municipal solid waste (garbage) took a big step forward recently.
Ted Carpenter, working with Environmental Recovery of Idaho (ERI) in Blackfoot, synthesized a compound made up of bacteria and fungi microbes that eats garbage.
"From the time I was 11 years old, I've wanted to turn garbage into dirt," Carpenter said.
After a 10-week test, Carpenter took samples and sent them to three laboratories for analysis.
BLACKFOOT â Idaho Virtual Academy middle school students, grades six through eight, displayed their language arts projects in the Needlepoint Building on the Eastern Idaho State Fairgrounds Friday.
The projects were as varied as the students' interests.
Asked if he was interested in WWII, 14-year-old Jareth McDougel from Fort Hall said, "If it's about WWII or WWII planes, I'm interested."
Roger Patterson, 59, of Aurora, Ill., and formerly of Blackfoot passed away Thursday, April 07, 2011.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot.
POCATELLO â A local doctor has implanted the first and only MRI- compatible pacemaker device into two patients, just two months after the device was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Dr. Benjamin Call, a cardiologist at Pocatello Cardiology at Portneuf Medical Center, inserted the Medtronic, Revo MRI SureScan pacing system into a patient younger than 35 and a patient in their 50s. It is the first pacemaker in the U.S. specifically designed for use in a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) environment.
