'Sister Moss' selected as Miss Sho-Ban

Fort Hall's Tadrachelle Murry was named the 51st Miss Shoshone-Bannock Queen following a spectacular, but wet, grand entry at the Shoshone-Bannock Festival Friday evening.
Murry, 25, who is affectionately known as "Sister Moss" throughout the Fort Hall community was crowned by Taylor Thomas who was named Miss Shoshone-Bannock last year. Thomas went on to become Miss Indian World this spring.

Bids end tonight for art show auction

FORT HALL — The Indian Art Show is open today and Saturday at the Shoshone-Bannock Hotel. Art show hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
"This is the first year a silent auction has taken place," said Emma George, Indian Art Show Coordinator. Bid on original Indian Art Work will close at 6 o'clock this evening. The items for sale are marked by a tag.
The work of 40 artists is on display.

LaVon Muir, 80

LaVon Muir, 80, of Blackfoot, was reunited with God and family on August 6, 2014. LaVon was born on April 18, 1934, to William Reed Muir and Eva Jensen.
He was born in Soda Springs and was raised in Gray's Lake, Idaho. LaVon was a tile setter and a hard worker all of his life and enjoyed passing on the skills of his trade to others. Much of his fine craftsmanship can still be seen throughout Southeast Idaho.

Michelle Diane Parkinson Fox, 50

August 8, 2014

Michelle Diane Parkinson Fox, 50, of Rigby, Idaho passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Madison Memorial Hospital after a valiant battle with breast cancer.
Michelle was born on February 18, 1964 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Robert Hyrum Parkinson and Diane Rae Longmore. She attended school in the Blackfoot School District and graduated from Blackfoot High School. She continued her education at Ricks College, BYU-Hawaii and BYU-Provo.
On December 13, 1985 Michelle married Albert “Ray” Fox Jr. in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They have three children, Rachel, Spencer and Matthew.

Flood damage hit homes and businesses hard

BLACKFOOT—Many homes and business throughout the area were severely damaged due to a flash flood that hit the Blackfoot area on Wednesday. There are yet no reports of significant crop damage.
A torrential rainstorm dropped at least 3 inches of rain in the first 15 minutes on Wednesday.
While some folks were just contending with flood water, others were flooded with sewage backup in their homes due to the city's wastewater system becoming overwhelmed with too much water. Bingham County's Public Information Officer Scott Reese estimates that over 100 homes have damage from sewage backup.

Storm, flood soak Blackfoot

A flash flood hit Blackfoot Wednesday afternoon following an intense downpour.
On Wednesday, Chief Deputy Jeff Gardner with the Bingham County Sheriff's office asked people to stay home if at all possible.
"We have stalled vehicles all over and we are dealing with the traffic," he said.
Some home and business owners reported that their buildings were flooded with water and sewage. City officials noted that the wastewater system was overwhelmed and asked residents to curtail their usage for a few hours.

Marva Christiansen Layton, 82

August 6, 2014

Marva Christiansen Layton, 82 of Taylor Idaho, passed away in Idaho Falls on Aug. 3, 2014, surrounded by family.
She was born Oct. 15, 1931 to Gerald Niels Christiansen and Florence Ida Wheeler Christiansen on the family farm in Moreland, Idaho. She was the fifth of nine brothers and sisters.

City opens public comment period on budget

Blackfoot city leaders hashed out the first draft of the city's proposed budget for the 2014-15 fiscal year at Tuesday night's city council meeting. Blackfoot Mayor Paul Loomis announced that the public comment period on the budget is "officially open" and will conclude with a public hearing on Aug. 19 at Blackfoot City Hall.

5 Year Old Idaho Girl Accidentally Shot Dead During a Playdate

A 5 year old girl shot dead by a 5 year old boy in a tragic accidental shooting during a playdate. Noelle Aston Shawver of Blackfoot in eastern Idaho died on Wednesday after visiting a home in Chubbuck, police said. Police have released few details, citing an ongoing investigation.

Van Wayne Stears, 66

Van Wayne Stears, 66, of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed away Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014 at his home peacefully surrounded by his daughters, grandchildren, family and friends.
He was born Nov. 30, 1947 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the son of Len Taylor Stears and Thelma Parks Stears.
Van grew up in the New Sweden area and San Diego, California. He graduated from Mount Miguel High School in California.
He was a member of the masonry union in San Diego.  He owned Top & Trim in Blackfoot for years and Van’s Masonry where he was self-employed in the masonry construction business.
