BLACKFOOT — Schools in the Blackfoot School District will have a three-hour early release Monday in lieu of the regular one-hour early release. The family of Dane Petersen requested the early release to allow bus drivers who worked with Dane to attend his funeral. Dane's father, Chad, also works at Miles Bus Co.
The early release will also make it possible for Dane’s classmates and staff members who work with Marsha Petersen, who teaches at Groveland Elementary, or who had Dane as a student, the opportunity to attend the funeral.
BLACKFOOT – The "Ceremony of Candles", a Christmas and Advent Cantata will be presented by the Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist choir Sunday at 7 p.m.
Randi Lemieux has directed the choir for over 30 years. Lemieux, who has a minor in music and choral directing, says she enjoys the presentation every year.
BLACKFOOT — When Hero Shiosaki, a former commander of Blackfoot's Veterans of Foreign Wars post, saw Holly Kartchner teach at Blackfoot High School, he knew she was someone special.
"She amazed me with the way she taught," Shiosaki said. He noted that when a student answered a question incorrectly, Kartchner repeated it, then gave the correct answer in a non-threatening way.
"The students learned something that day," Shiosaki said. "I saw that she's getting through to all those kids.
"She's a dedicated person who wants her kids to learn something," he added.
