Snake River students compete in shoe design contest

THOMAS — Your vote is needed.
Snake River High School students need your vote to continue in the Vans Shoes sneaker customization contest.
Art students in Jason Coles' advanced placement class designed four pairs of shoes using four different themes—art, music, street fashion and active sports.
The Snake River entry is a finalist in the Northwest Region, having been named one of the top 10 entries in this region.
The nation is divided into five regions. The top vote-getter in each region will travel to New York City.

Cindy Rella opens at Nuart

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Community Players open their new production, "Cindy Rella," tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Nuart Theatre.
The show will run tonight, Saturday, Monday and May 10, 11, and 13. All shows are at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $5 opening night and $7 all other nights.
"Cindy Rella" is a fractured fairytale based on the classic Cinderella story. The plot follows Cindy Rella, played by Haley Krehbiel, and her two sisters Sparkle and Sugar, played by Rachel McPhie and Maren Brower. All three are still in high school and showcase the upcoming talent of the Community Players.

Shelley trustees make tentative budget decisions

SHELLEY – Shelley school board trustees met Thursday evening to discuss the budget for the 2011-2012 school year (Fiscal Year 2012).
The anticipated shortfall for that year is approximately $600,000, said Superintendent Bryan Jolley.
So it comes down to three choices — staff reductions, more students in each classroom or cutting salaries, said trustee Loren Lund.
At the conclusion of the two-hour meeting, trustees sort of nibbled around the corners.
To meet the anticipated $600,000 shortfall, these are their decisions:

Fort Hall residents express concerns to school board

FORT HALL — The Blackfoot School Board of Trustees held their annual meeting at Fort Hall Thursday night and received input from that community's residents about district education programs.
Four individuals provided comment, all pertaining to the importance of teaching native languages in schools throughout the school district.
