Run-off election scheduled for Blackfoot council race

BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot will have a run-off election for city council seat number 4 on Tuesday, Dec. 6. City council members in Blackfoot must win by 50 percent plus one vote of the cast ballots to be declared the winner.
For seat 4, Butch Hulse had 388 votes or 49.68 percent of the vote. Clair Broadhead garnered 292 votes or 37.39 percent of the vote. Randy Herbert had 101 votes or 12.93 percent of the vote.
Blackfoot city councilmen Rich Woodfin had 703 votes. City councilman Farrell Cammack earned 663 votes. Each of these men ran unopposed for their council positions.

Paisley Studios grand opening Thursday

BLACKFOOT — When Paisley Studios moved down the street to a bigger space at their new location at 100 W. Bridge St., photographers Heather Parmenter and Kayla Evans decided to try something new.
The new studio features a full-service salon upstairs and a photography studio downstairs.
"We just wanted to do something different," Parmenter said. "We wanted to fill the space."
The salon has three stations manned by Brittney Chavez, Kristina Gregory and Laurie Shawver. They do hair, makeup and nails.

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. – The ride from Jackson Hole, Wyo., to Rigby, Idaho, usually takes under two hours. But, for Holly Galbraith and the seven young women traveling with her last Saturday, the day was not what they expected.
Galbraith, a 35-year old youth leader, gave herself extra time that morning allowing for slick road conditions as the group set out for an Especially for Youth church activity.

Tuesday accident near 600 West injures three

BLACKFOOT — Three people were transported to Bingham Memorial Hospital after their car struck a truck that was crossing Highway 39 at 600 West Tuesday night.
At 5:09 p.m. Tuesday, Idaho State Police responded to what was reported as a one-vehicle rollover. Upon arriving at the scene it was determined that there were two vehicles involved and the accident was not a rollover.

Radiological exposure incident reported at INL site

UPDATE 5:20 p.m. — A total of 17 Battelle Energy Alliance employees were potentially exposed to low-levels of contamination. Of the potentially exposed employees, six have tested positive for low-levels of contamination based on external surveying.

All 17 employees are currently undergoing full body scans at the Central Facilities Area Medical Facility which can take up to an hour per person.

External air sampling and radiological surveys indicate no contamination has been detected outside of the Zero Power Physics Reactor facility.

Santa's Helpers fundraiser set at Rupe's

BLACKFOOT — Law enforcement officers will be working at Rupe's Burgers Saturday, Nov. 19, to raise funds for the Santa's Helpers program.
From 6-9 p.m., officers with the Blackfoot Police Department and deputies from the Sheriff's Office will be taking orders and waiting tables at Rupe's. All tips will be donated to the Santa's Helpers program, and Kevin Rupe has agreed to donate a percentage of the proceeds from those three hours to the program.

Judges prepare for today's election

Chief Judge Luanne Olsen and election official Paige Hyde in Precincts 3 and 23 put up a precinct map at Mountain View Middle School in preparation for today's election.
Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at regular polling places. Elections for city positions, tax districts and the permanent ambulance override are up for a vote today. To vote, electors need to bring picture identification to their regular polling places.

EPA sets two more meetings on FMC cleanup

BLACKFOOT — The Environmental Protection Agency has added a series of follow-up public meetings focused on the FMC Operable Unit of the Eastern Michaud Flats Superfund Site.
There will be three additional public meetings—the first Nov. 15 from 4-7 p.m. in the Chubbuck City Council Chambers and two Nov. 16 from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at the Fort Hall Business Center.

Commission: No clemency for Rhoades

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Commission of Pardons and Parole says it won't consider a clemency request from condemned inmate Paul Ezra Rhoades.

Rhoades is scheduled to die by lethal injection on Nov. 18 for the murders of Susan Michelbacher and Stacy Baldwin in 1987.
