Tater Trot scheduled for Nov. 10

Last November, 99 individuals pulled on their gloves, hats, and other thermal wear and struck out into the cold, wind, and sleet at the inaugural Blackfoot Tater Trot Run and Walk.  Covering distances of 5 or 10 kilometers, they traversed a portion of the Greenbelt from Veterans' Park, to Jensen Grove, and north to Rose Road. On their return, they were greeted by the smiling faces of volunteers from Community Dinner Table who served up hot, steaming baked potatoes and warm drinks.

First CDT dinner of the year feeds 300

A delicious meal of homemade taco soup and cornbread with honey warmed the hearts and the bellies of at least 300 people at the first Community Dinner Table (CDT) dinner of the season at Jason Lee Memorial Church in Blackfoot Tuesday.
The dinner was prepared and served by volunteers from Blackfoot South Stake.
Blackfoot South Stake received a big round of applause when CDT board member Lee Hammett announced that "this is the most people served at the first meal of the season in years."

Dawn Enterprises conducts open house

In recognition of Disability Awareness Month during October, Dawn Enterprises conducted an open house in Blackfoot. The facility is at 280 Cedar St. in Blackfoot.
The company has been in business 35 years. It helps disabled individuals, be they socially, mentally or physically challenged.
On Monday, guests were invited to tour the facility.
In the production part of the business, hoods are contracted to be made for a number of companies or entities.

Stoddard kids kick off annual reading challenge

With a resounding "ARRRGHH" and a theme of "Books Ahoy," students at Stoddard Elementary School in Blackfoot kicked off their third annual reading challenge Friday as part of the Idaho Reads! VISTA [Volunteers In Service To America] program.
Annie Tanner, Idaho Reads! VISTA representative for Stoddard, said the whole purpose of the program is to promote family literacy and encourage parent involvement in the school.
