30 years of cutting hair and still going strong

Although she's one of those people who styled her dolls' hair, Kathy Tauscher didn't plan on doing hair as a living.
At least not initially.
"I worked as a waitress at the Tree House when it closed unexpectedly," she said of a local restaurant. "My mom encouraged me to train so I went to the Blackfoot College of Beauty with my twin sister (Karen Martin)."
That was over 30 years ago. She started KaDee's In Style with Debbie Palmer and the two worked as partners for four years. She and Dena Tauscher were partners for 10 years.

Local businesses see Dr. Oz effect

Local retailers in the vitamin, weight loss and herbal supplement business are making a point to watch Dr. Oz on a regular basis after seeing the 'Oz Effect' take place first-hand in their stores.
The Dr. Oz Show (now in its 3rd season), appeals mostly to women aged 25-65 and is the second Oprah Winfrey Show television spin-off (second to Dr. Phil) to come from frequent guest appearances on the show.

GOP candidates battle for county offices

BLACKFOOT – Since no Democrats filed to run for county offices, the only races in Tuesday's primary election are on the Republican ticket. Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Candidates running for county offices are:
Commissioner Cleone Jolley from the First District did not run for reelection, so this is an open seat.
Running for County Commissioner, First District, are:
Mark R. Bair from Firth
Merril Blake from Shelley
Steven L. Cederberg from Shelley
Barry F. Johnson from Shelley
Matthew T. Thompson from Shelley

Baby Animal Day draws good crowds

Hundreds of families attended baby animal day at the Eastern Idaho State Fairgrounds on Saturday. The event featured a variety of baby animals for children and adults to pet, hold, and watch. Three-year-old Ava Falter, expressed her fascination with the soft furry bunnies, "I want to buy it and put it in my bed!"
Baby animal day was a huge success. Sterling Hatch, founder of the event, said, "We try to expand a little every year."
