Credit union robbed in Shelley

June 5, 2012

The East Idaho Credit Union at 418 W. Fir St. in Shelley was robbed around 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The suspect is one male subject. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a black hat, red hoodie and sunglasses. He appeared to in his late teens, early 20s.
There were no weapons, Bingham County Sheriff Dave Johnson said.
Shortly after the credit union was robbed, a stolen vehicle was reported.
"We assume the two incidents are tied together," the sheriff said.
Police later reported that they had recovered the stolen vehicle in another part of the community.

Quiet evening at council meeting

Wednesday's Blackfoot City Council meeting was primarily informational in nature.
Mayor Mike Virtue received final approval for an airport lease agreement with NezGro Aerial Applicators. The company has paid the city $3,600 to use a hangar for one year.
Virtue also pointed out that the city and its fire fighters have realized there is no benefit to renegotiating their contract at this time. So the council approved extension of that pact for one year.

Local students earn bikes from Phil Meador Toyota

The rain, wind and unseasonably cold temperatures didn't damper the spirits of 85 fifth grade students from Blackfoot and Fort Hall as they each wheeled away a brand new 21-speed Diamond Back mountain bike Tuesday evening, a reward from Phil Meador Toyota for having perfect attendance this past school year.

Property taxes due on June 20

The second half of the 2011 property tax is due by Wednesday, June 20, 2012, according to Bingham County Tax Collector Janice Lawes.
If you are coming into the office to pay, bring your tax bills with you.
If you are mailing your payment, include the appropriate payment stub to facilitate proper credit. Early payment is encouraged, to avoid long lines or unexpected circumstances that might prevent you from making payment on the due date.

Office hours are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Payments may be mailed to 501 N Maple #210, Blackfoot ID 83221.

Stalker hiring explanation

BLACKFOOT -- With recent concerns raised by Stalker Elementary parents after the hiring of a uncertified teacher, officials in the Blackfoot School District spoke out to clarify the process.
Hiring procedures used in the Blackfoot School District aim to have a level playing field for all applicants.
Superintendent Dr. Scott Crane said, “The process tries to be fair and consistent.”
"We try to hire the best qualified candidate who best meets the needs of the district and the school.

Friends, colleagues remember Blackfoot councilman

Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot was bursting at the seams as hundreds of friends and family members honored and remembered Blackfoot native and city councilman Farrell Cammack Monday afternoon.
Cammack, 69, who was Blackfoot's longest running city council member, died of cancer at his home last Tuesday evening.
Blackfoot Fire Chief Kevin Gray, who attended the funeral in full uniform to honor his friend and colleague, said, "He was a great listener and a 'wealth of information' and support to the fire department. He will be missed."
