Anyone affected by cancer knows it's not always easy to find a path back to good health. Trevor Bennion, the only certified health and fitness specialist in east Idaho and one of only two specialists in the state who is certified as a 'cancer exercise trainer,' has found his passion helping cancer patients (and others with chronic diseases) find hope by gaining control of their health through exercise and nutrition.
BLACKFOOT â€” Members of the Blackfoot school board remain tight lipped as suspicion grows throughout the community as to whether the board paid former Blackfoot School District superintendent Scott Crane to 'go away' while he still had up to three years left on his contract.
SHELLEY â€“ Thousands took in the activities of Spud Day in Shelley on Saturday. This year was the 84th yearly celebration of the Russet potato and the City of Shelley.
Celebrating its 75th anniversary, the Idaho Potato Commission hauled the worldâ€™s biggest potato to Shelley to participate in the parade.
Whitney Wood is the current Miss Idaho. She will compete in the Miss America Pageant come January. Saturday, she joined in the festivities, including being pulled into the vat of potatoes during the Spud Tug.
BLACKFOOT â€” People and organizations in the Blackfoot community have donated $28,549 to the families of the three electrocution victims, said organizer Douglas Bowers.
"Each family will receive $9,516," Bowers said.
He delivered the money to the families at 6 p.m. on Friday.
"I'm thankful to God and this community for coming together to support the survivors of such a tragedy," Bowers said. "This is a great community effort.
"Some money came in anonymously," he said. "The Blackfoot Elks donated a sum from the Demolition Derby."
FORT HALL â€” The public got a sneak peek of the plans for the second phase of the new Shoshone-Bannock Sports and Wellness Complex at the Wellness Gathering held at the Shoshone-Bannock Hotel & Convention Center Friday afternoon. Architects, tribal officials and community members shared their vision for this state-of-the art facility designed to meet the wellness needs of a growing community.
CAMP MABRY, Texas â€” Brigadier General Joyce Stevens was promoted to the rank of Major General at the Texas Military Forces Museum in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, Sept. 5. Stevens became the first female two star general in the Texas National Guard. The announcement was made by Adjutant General of Texas, Maj. Gen. John Nichols.
Assuming the dual roles of Commander for the Texas Army National Guard and Assistant Adjutant General in March 2009, Stevens serves as the principal advisor to The Adjutant General for all Army operations.
BLACKFOOT â€”Â Friends and family of Brent and Emilie Hansen are working together with local Modern Woodmen of America Youth Service Clubs to raise funds to support the Hansen family.
Brent was killed in a recent motorcycle accident.
All money raised will go directly to supporting the Hansen family.

Eastern Idaho State Fair (EISF) officials have been busily crunching numbers since the fair ended on Saturday. The ending results revealed that the "Barnyard Birthday Bash" of 2012 will go down in the record books as the most attended fair in Blackfoot's history, setting a new attendance record of over 224,000 visitors. This beats the former record of 221,000 visitors set in 2009.
Patrons and school teachers are reacting to the news that Blackfoot School District officials denied Joyce Bingham's request to view copies of a payout from the school district's bank account in the amount of $105,428 on July 2, 2012.
Bingham discovered the payout while examining public records. The payment was made through Zion's Bank (Salt Lake City, UT) and is noted on the expenditure description as AP Contract Services.
The Demolition Derby sold out on Saturday night at the Eastern Idaho State Fair.
The Demo Derby is sponsored by the Blackfoot Elks.
