February 15th
Christopher Cox, age 38, the principal of Snake River Junior High, has been arrested on two counts of felony sexual abuse of a minor, according to Bingham County Sheriff Dave Johnson. He was booked into jail at 3 p.m. He will be arraigned at 9 a.m. today.
After receiving a complaint from a student who has since moved to Wyoming, a Bingham County detective interviewed the victim and subsequently began an investigation, Johnson said.
"After Cox was interviewed, charges were filed," Johnson said. Each count carries a sentence of 25 years in the Idaho State Penitentiary and a fine of $50,000.

Winkler TV & Satellite has moved to a new location. The Blackfoot business has moved to 360 W. Judicial, behind the electronic billboard.
Winklers have been in business in Blackfoot for 35 years.
"We moved into a better location with more traffic," Carl Winkler said. "We've moved here to get more business."
Trained in the early 60s as a television repairman, Winkler has seen a lot of change in the field.
Instead of tubes, today's flat panel televisions have modular components, Winkler said.
Members of the Blackfoot Urban Redevelopment Agency (BURA) approved extending their purview on Tuesday. It will now include additional property beyond the Downtown area.
Pursuant to Idaho Code, BURA voted to extend the boundaries of the parts of the city eligible for the funding of projects designed "to prevent and arrest decay."
They also voted to extend the time frame for the existence of the BURA project for 10 more years. It was originally scheduled to expire later this year.
The Blackfoot City Council has the final say and will vote on BURA's actions on March 6.

THEFT: Feb. 6, 10:28 p.m.: A woman said she was at Ridley's and a juvenile stole $125 from her purse.
DOESN'T LIKE DONUTS: Feb. 7, 6:56 p.m.: A woman said she nearly hit a vehicle that came onto the interstate and did a "donut" in the middle of the ramp.
EMPLOYEE THEFT: Feb. 8, 12:09 p.m.: A caller at Maverik requested an officer because they have a video of an employee stealing $250.
Cass William Tendore, age 27, of Pocatello, appeared with his attorney Monday before Senior District Judge Gregory Anderson on a motion to suppress charges against him.
Count two, possession of a controlled substance, was dismissed. The report from the State Lab said there was no controlled substance in the baggy found on Tendore's person.
Tendore was arrested at the Eastern Idaho State Fair in September 2011. He was charged with trafficking a controlled substance, three counts of carrying a concealed weapon without a license and criminal trespass from the fairgrounds.

A steady stream of people flowed through the Meridian Center on Monday, buying goodies for their favorite people during SweetFest.
SweetFest is a fundraiser for Soroptimist International of Blackfoot, a women's service organization.
Linda DeRoche, president of the local chapter, noted that they conduct a few fundraisers a year so they can award scholarships to deserving women.
A power outage Monday morning affected nearly 1,100 customers in west Blackfoot for approximately 30 minutes.
The outage occurred at 10:24 a.m. Monday. An Idaho Power representative said they believe something hit a power line causing the outage, but the cause was not immediately determined. A crew responded, checked the line and restored power at 10:53 a.m.
The outage affected 1,100 customers from Broadway to Riverside Plaza including the Jensen Grove area. The areas impacted include Meridian Street, Parkway Drive and Jensen Grove Drive.

BLACKFOOT — Former Blackfoot resident Martha Bean wanted to find a position where she could have many opportunities, meet interesting people, and work on stimulating projects. That is why she applied at Google. Much to her delight, Bean obtained the job and now works for the multinational internet corporation.
February 11th
(AP)Whitney Houston, who ruled as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, died Saturday. She was 48.
Beverly Hills police Lt. Mark Rosen told KABC-TV that Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. in her room on the fourth floor of the Beverly Hilton. Her body remained in the hotel and Beverly Hills detectives were investigating.
Houston's publicist, Kristen Foster, said Saturday that the cause of her death was unknown.
