â€˘Â Shirley Brumfield takes the reigns as the new Chamber of Commerce president this month. Brumfield, along with new members of the Chamber board will be introduced at the President's lunch on Wednesday, Jan. 11.

BLACKFOOT â€” The Bingham County Commissioners approved changes to the commissioner district boundaries Thursday, moving Precinct 4 from Commissioner District 2 to District 3.
The moveâ€”required by Idaho Statuteâ€”ensures the population in each of the three districts is no more or less than 10 percent of the other two districts based on the 2010 Census.
The change only affects 2,701 people living in Precinct 4, which is the area of Riverton Road west of Blackfoot. Precinct 4 is now part of District 3, which includes nearly all of western Bingham County.
BLACKFOOT â€” Local Idaho Power employees give back each year to various local non-profit organizations, including the Bingham Crisis Center.
Regional Idaho Power employees donate to an employee community service fund throughout the year. Those funds are then matched by Idaho Power and distributed to various non-profit agencies throughout the region from Pocatello to Salmon. The fund is employee-governed and gives to various organizations providing health and human services to individuals.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) â€” Mitt Romney eked out a minuscule 8-vote victory over Rick Santorum in Iowa's Republican presidential caucuses, the state party chairman said early Wednesday, ringing down the curtain on an improbable first act in the campaign to pick a challenger to President Barack Obama in the fall.
Appearing hours after the caucuses had ended, Matt Strawn said Romney had 30,015 votes, to 30,007 for Santorum, whose late surge carried him to a near win.
BLACKFOOT â€” Shaden Leland Ross Walters was sentenced to probation and
fined $1,355.50 Monday by Bingham County Seventh Judicial Judge Darren
On May 23, 2011, Walters, age 19, and co-defendant Chris Nelson were
charged with burglary. The pair were charged with stealing from Todd
On Oct. 3, Walters pleaded not guilty to the burglary charge and then
changed his plea to guilty on Nov. 14.
In Walters' plea deal, the prosecuting attorney, the defense attorney
and the pre-sentence investigator agreed that Walters was a good
BLACKFOOT â€” The Blackfoot City Council unanimously voted to amend the ordinance requiring a majority vote for the election of city council members. Now, only a plurality vote is required.
A majority is still required in mayoral elections and a runoff election will follow if no candidate receives a majority of the vote.
In discussing the proposed changes, newly elected Council President Chris Jensen and Councilman Farrell Cammack both said they favored requiring a plurality vote for election of council members but said the mayor should still be elected by a majority vote.
BLACKFOOT â€” Bingham County commissioners recommended a public hearing be scheduled in Aberdeen to determine if there is interest to extend the runway at the Aberdeen Municipal Airport.
Airports are required to pass an inspection certification each 10 years, said Nathan Cuvala from T-O Engineers in Boise. His firm was hired to inspect the Aberdeen Municipal Airport. Cuvala presented the idea of extending the runway to the county commissioners in mid-December.
BLACKFOOT â€” The doctors and other medical personnel at Parkway Surgery Center are proud of their state-of-the-art equipment.
Included among the items intended to provide the best medical care are a new carpal tunnel device, a new high definition colonoscopy machine and two new anesthesia machines.
"The goal of this new equipment is to have the best care we can for our patients," said Wendy Nugent, the clinical administrator at the facility.
