Blackfoot School District is seeking an Idaho-licensed attorney or firm to serve as general legal counsel and is now accepting proposals for the job.
The district fired attorney Dale Storer in December in the midst of the "Scott Crane separation agreement" debacle and has been temporarily receiving legal counsel from Amy White, an attorney for the Idaho School Board Association.
Chad Struhs, interim superintendent for the district, issued a press release on Thursday describing the position.
Students at Mountain View Middle School (MVMS) received 30 brand new microscopes for science classes this week, thanks to a grant awarded to the school's Life Science teachers, Eileen Huestis and Alan Southern.
The teachers applied for the grant through the Summer of Innovation Program (part of the NASA Idaho Space Grant Consortium) right before the deadline on Jan. 10 and were thrilled to receive the grant money just four days later.
Community reaction to the news of recall efforts against Blackfoot School District trustees Scott Reese and Jenny Hong has been mixed, with some patrons showing strong support for the school board members.
Start-up recall petitions against the two were turned into the Bingham County Clerk's office late Monday by a local group, "Concerned Citizens of District 55" because of the board's actions regarding former superintendent Scott Crane's $220,000 separation agreement. Scott Bigler, organizer of the group contends that "the community has lost trust in the board."
It was a festive but emotional evening as volunteers, team participants and cancer survivors gathered at the Meridian Center in Blackfoot Thursday night for a Hawaiian Luau to kick off planning efforts for this year's Bingham County "Relay For Life." The event to be at Blackfoot High School June 14-15.
About 600 fifth through eighth graders heard a strong anti-bullying message in the Snake River High School auditorium on Wednesday.
Author Brad Tassell used song, examples and his fictional detective story, "Don't Feed the Bully,"
"Why is it funny when someone hurts him/herself?" Tassell asked.
With the help of his audience, three reasons were determined:

Â° "It is you; just not at this time," Tassell added.
