Firth races past Oakley

It took Connor Montgomery less than six minutes to make his mark on the Firth Cougars' 37-6 win over Oakley in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs on Thursday.
In that span Montgomery had a rushing touchdown, a receiving touchdown and a fumble recovery as the Cougars built a lead that Oakley never challenged.
Montgomery finished the night with 137 yards rushing and four touchdowns on 17 carries and another 16 yards and a touchdown through the air.
But other than Montgomery the Cougars did not get much done offensively.

Aberdeen vs North Fremont

The North Fremont Huskies defeated the Aberdeen Tigers 28-14 with in the 2A state play-in game at Holt Arena. The Huskies will play the winner of Saturday's Wendell and Soada Springs game.

Halloween safety tips

BLACKFOOT — Costumed monsters, superheroes and princesses will take to the streets tonight but precautions are necessary.
Here are a few:
"Wear bright colored clothes and bright colored costumes," said Capt. Robert Sobieski with the Bingham County Sheriff's office. "Use flashlights or glow wands, with fresh batteries.
"Children should be accompanied by an adult," he said. "Go to houses you know.
"Do not accept any foot that's unwrapped unless you know the person who made it," said Sobieski. "If you receive unwrapped candy, throw it away.

Haunted house in Blackfoot?

BLACKFOOT — For three years (1999-2002), Heidi Jacoby Cook said she did not get a good night’s sleep while living in a house at 325 N. Meridian Street in Blackfoot. Cook believes the house is haunted and claims to have experienced some strange and “downright scary” things within the walls of the home. And she’s not the only one.
Cook, who was in her early 20’s at the time, made an agreement with the home owner (who was also her employer at Blackfoot’s 20th Century Ford), that she would help fix up the old, run down, two-story house - in exchange for living at the residence for low rent.

Students at SRJH hear downside of meth

THOMAS — Cyn Reneau, Idaho Meth Project Director of Development and Education, presented the downside of meth to the student body at the Snake River Junior High on Tuesday.
Junior high students were asked what they learned.
"It's bad to do drugs," said Luke Clark.
"Drugs will ruin you—your body, your brain and will hurt others," said Ashtyn Martin.
"Say 'no' to drugs," said Jack Thompson.
"I learned a lot—not to do drugs," said Max Hodge.
"If you take meth; it can possible kill you." said Mylie Capson.

Mayoral candidates address hot topics

BLACKFOOT—Economic development, city beautification, a railroad overpass (or underpass) and working with education were the dominant topics addressed by Blackfoot's six mayoral candidates at a "Meet the Candidates" forum at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center on Tuesday night.
About 100 people attended the forum to hear candidates Carlos Martinez, John Hoobler, Paul Loomis, Carlos Mercardo, Rick Bigler and Dan Cravens address a series of questions presented by moderators Blackfoot Mayor Mike Virtue and businessman Gordon Wankier, branch manager of Blackfoot's Zions Bank.

Obamacare: More than 2 million people get booted from existing health insurance plans

(CBS News) CBS News has learned more than two million Americans have been told they cannot renew their current insurance policies -- more than triple the number of people said to be buying insurance under the new Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare.

Current mayor to moderate candidate forum

As the moderator of "Meet the Candidates" night at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Blackfoot Mayor Mike Virtue will be posing questions about the future of the city to the six men who want his job.
Virtue, who is not running for re-election, will address mayoral candidates Rick Bigler, Dan Cravens, Paul Loomis, Carlos Martinez, Carlos Mercardo and John Hoobler.
All Blackfoot City Council candidates are invited to the forum as well. Incumbent Chris Jensen, Andy Hasselbring and Kenneth Ashcraft are vying for Seat #1. All other seats are unopposed.

Local ghostbusters find plenty of activity

If there's somethin' strange in your neighborhood, who ya gonna call? How about Blackfoot's own ghost busters - Michelle and Tanner Morgan? The mother/son team, otherwise known as "paranormal investigators" have been investigating strange happenings and conjuring up spirits in neighborhoods throughout the region for about six years now.
