Angry Pumpkin Chuckin Catapault Contest Saturday

The Angry Pumpkin Chuckin' catapult contest is an event within an event. The pumpkin launching, cannon shooting, egg tossing blast is part of the Wild Adventure Corn Maze, now located off Exit 98 on Rose Road.
"This event is just a blast," said Richard Johnson, owner of the Wild Adventure Corn Maze. "We have everything from small egg launchers to huge catapults. It is amazing to see what people are able to create."
Admission to watch the contest is free and all proceeds go towards prizes and cash awards for the winners.

Local women network and learn at symposium

POCATELLO — There was something for everyone - from the young entrepreneur to the seasoned business woman at the Working Women’s Business Symposium in Pocatello on Thursday.
Women from Bingham County and throughout the region were able to network and learn business and personal skills from the various speakers and breakout sessions offered at the annual conference sponsored by the Pocatello Small Business Development Center (SBDC)

ISU student died on I15 near Shelley

SHELLEY — One Idaho State University student died in an early morning accident on Interstate 15 at milepost 105 south of Shelley on Thursday, Oct. 10.
At 6:28 a.m., the Idaho State Police were investigating a one-vehicle fatality crash south of Shelley.
A woman was northbound in a 2005 Dodge pickup when she approached a slower moving vehicle. She mad an abrupt lane change from the right lane to the left lane. She overcorrected back to the right lane where she lost control of the vehicle. The pickup rolled.
No one was wearing seat belts, said ISP. All three people inside were ejected.

Chamber honors first responders at Officer Appreciation Day

The Greater Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce honored nine first responders on Wednesday.
"I continue to be amazed and pleased with the kind of service offered by first responders to our community," said Mayor Mike Virtue. "They are clearly unsung heroes."
The Chamber honors three deputies from the Bingham County Sheriff's Office, three Blackfoot police officers and three Blackfoot fire fighters.
Sheriff Craig Rowland presented certificates to Shirley Featherston, Mike Johnson and Brad Lulloff.
Featherston manages the Civil Office, making sure all papers are processed and served properly.

Stone Soup draws a large crowd in support of SEICAA

Ricky Gardner and his wife Carissa were among the people who enjoyed Stone Soup at Mountain View Middle School on Wednesday.
The fundraiser for Bingham County's SouthEast Idaho Community Action Agency drew at least 400 people during its two-and-one-half hour run.
"We just moved to the area," Gardner said, noting that his family had come from South Bend, Ind. "We're thrilled to see the community come together like this."
Angie Goodyear and Barb Parris helped with the setup of the children's carnival and the auction.

Dawn Enterprises celebrates Disability Awareness

BLACKFOOT — Dawn Enterprises in Blackfoot celebrated its participation in National Disability Employment Awareness (NDEAM) month, with Blackfoot Mayor Mike Virtue reading a proclamation and tours offered throughout the facility on Tuesday.
Sindi Crosland, vocational coordinator for the company, said Dawn Enterprises (on Cedar Street) in Blackfoot has been in business since 1974 employing individuals who are socially, mentally or physically challenged.

Semi rollover crash near Roy

ROY—There was a rollover crash in Aberdeen Northbound on SH37 earlier this afternoon South of Roy.
Enrique Flores-Gonzales, of Aberdeen, was heading North on SH37 in a semi truck hauling potatoes when he drove off the left shoulder of the roadway and lost control, causing the truck to slide. He has been transported to Portneuf Medical Center via air ambulance.

Health insurance exchange forum tonight

The National Association of Health Underwriters will sponsor a free forum on the health insurance exchanges tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Blackfoot Senior Citizens Center.
It is open to everyone between the ages of 18-65 in Bingham County and surrounding areas.
Dawn Larsen, Troy Goodwin of Apex Insurance and Jerry Jensen of Jensco will talk about eligibility and tax credits and how they work, how the exchange itself works, open enrollment dates and when coverage takes effect.

Local realtor vies for Blackfoot Council seat

As a candidate for Blackfoot City Council Seat 1, local realtor and businessman Andy Hasselbring has a fresh and long term vision for Blackfoot.
Hasselbring is vying for the seat against longtime incumbent Chris Jensen and newcomer Kenneth Ashcraft.
A Blackfoot native, Hasselbring said, "My vision for Blackfoot is to develop a culture in the city and help Blackfoot become the' best place to live and raise a family."

Man injured in rollover near Springfield

MORNING NEWS
SPRINGFIELD — An American Falls man was injured in a one-vehicle crash about milepost 26.5 on State Highway 39 on Monday.
According to the Idaho State Police, Victor Soltero Contreras, 23, was driving south in a 1993 Ford Ranger near 2600 West about 7 a.m. when he drove off the right shoulder, over-corrected and lost control of his vehicle. His truck went onto the left shoulder of the road and then rolled.
Soltero Contreras was not wearing a seatbelt.  He was transported by air ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.
