As was expected, Blackfoot Police Captain Kurt Asmus was officially appointed the city's new police chief by the Blackfoot City Council Tuesday evening.
Asmus will take over as police chief on June 1, replacing Police Chief David Moore, who will retire at the end of the month. Moore recommended Asmus to the council as his replacement in March when he turned in his resignation letter to Blackfoot Mayor Mike Virtue.
