Three schools put on lockdown briefly

May 1, 2014

The outside doors of three Blackfoot schools and the district office were locked to prevent any intruder from entering on Thursday.
At 12:41 p.m. the Blackfoot Police Department asked students, faculty and staff at the Blackfoot Sixth Grade Center, Independence Alternative High School, and Mountain View Middle School to “shelter in place."
That tactic is a form of lockdown where the exterior doors are locked, but instruction continues inside the school, said Blackfoot Police Lt. Shawn Hunter. The exterior doors were locked so no intruders could come inside.
