December 8th
BLACKFOOT — Jen Grover and Jaclyn Falter are single mothers with a dream and a goal.
They want to support their children — Grover has four and Falter three — and they want to succeed as chocolatiers.
They are opening Lola’s Chocolates at 10 NW Main, the corner of Bridge and NW Main. They will celebrate their grand opening during the 7th annual Winter Walk on Saturday and are open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
“We figured we may as well go for it,” Grover said of opening the shop. “If you don’t go for your dreams, you’re never going to go.”
December 7th
BLACKFOOT — The 20th annual Cookie Festival at the Emanuel Lutheran Church is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The church is at 1110 Parkway Dr. in Blackfoot.
The cookies cost $5 per pound.
Over 5,000 cookies will be on sale.
"No boxes of cookies are pre-packaged," said Margaret Contor. "As people come in, we hand them a box and a glove so they can pick what cookies they would like."
Each box holds about four pounds of cookies.

IDAHO FALLS – The doors of the first Chick-fil-A restaurant in Idaho don't open for about 24 hours but more than 75 people already are in line at 3003 S. 25th E. in Ammon despite the single digit temperatures.
BLACKFOOT — Butch Hulse won the runoff election Tuesday for seat 4 on the Blackfoot City Council by a margin of 122 votes.
Hulse defeated Clair L. Broadhead with a vote of 450-328 as he garnered 57.8 percent of the vote and won the majority at each polling place.
A total of 778 voters headed to the polls in the runoff election and turnout was similar to the November election when 781 total people cast their vote for seat 4.
“I appreciate everyone that voted,” Hulse said after the election. “I’m really excited.”
Broadhead had no comment after the election results were finalized.
December 6th
MORELAND — The Bennett family, owners of KARRS in Moreland, wants to deliver "A Christmas Feast Fit for a King" to a deserving family.
What they need is help help identifying people with a need.
"All you have to do is write a short letter explaining why the family deserves a free dinner," said Charlie Bennett. "We will then choose one of those stories as a winner."
The deadline for recommendations is Monday, Dec. 19, so a winner can then be selected and contacted.
"On Christmas Day, we will deliver a fully cooked hot meal to the family in their home," Bennett said.
IDAHO FALLS — The Idaho Department of Labor is sponsoring the Eastern Idaho Job and Community Resource Fair in Idaho Falls Wednesday from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. The event will be at the East Idaho Public Health District Office, 1250 Hollipark Dr. in Idaho Falls.
Approximately 30 employers will be looking to fill a combined 200 positions.
Employers to be represented include Premier Technology, Spudnik Equipment, Transystems, URS/Areva, Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, Compa, Bart Larson Trucking, Center Partners and CenturyLink.

THOMAS — Snake River bands need your vote. The band is competing for a private grant of $25,000 through the Pepsi Refresh Project.
"In five days of voting, the Snake River Band has placed 17 out of 224 entries," band director Randy Brady said.
To receive the $25,000 grant, Snake River needs to finish in the top 15 by the end of the month.
"[The grant money] would do a lot for our program," said Brady.
Brady's idea is to replace old, broken instruments and fill in instrumentation. Filling out instrumentation will make the band sound better and boost interest.
BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Police Department have identified four male juveniles who they believe are responsible for causing an estimated $3,000 in damage to approximately 19 vehicles and one home.
The damage occurred Dec. 2 and 3. The Blackfoot Police Department investigated approximately 19 malicious injury to property complaints after windows of numerous vehicles and one home were damaged by a BB gun.
December 4th
BLACKFOOT — Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday for only Blackfoot residents. Electors are voting on Blackfoot city council seat number four. The candidates are Butch Hulse and Clair Broadhead.
Electors living in the following precincts will vote in these locations:
° Precincts 1, 2 and 3 will vote in the Mountain View Middle School.
° Precinct 4 will vote at Stalker Elementary.
° Precinct 5 will vote at Ridge Crest Elementary.
° Precinct 6 will vote at BPAC.
To be able to vote, each elector must present photo identification.
