Prosecutor: Ohio shooting suspect is 'not well'

CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio teenager accused of killing three students in a shooting rampage in a high school cafeteria chose his victims at random and is "someone who's not well," a prosecutor said Tuesday as the slightly built young man appeared in juvenile court.
T.J. Lane, 17, admitted taking a .22-caliber pistol and a knife to Chardon High and firing 10 shots at a group of students sitting at a cafeteria table Monday morning, Prosecutor David Joyce said. He said Lane didn't know the victims.

Death toll now three in Ohio shooting

CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — The death toll rose to three Tuesday in the shooting rampage in an Ohio high school cafeteria as schoolmates and townspeople grappled with the tragedy and wondered what could have set the teenage gunman off.
The teenager under arrest in Monday's attack, T.J. Lane, faced an afternoon hearing in juvenile court.
Shaken residents offered condolences and prayers to the families of those killed and wounded at 1,100-student Chardon High School in suburban Cleveland. All three of the dead were students.

Man charged with attempted murder

Jesse William A. Whipkey, age 66, had his first appearance before Seventh District Magistrate Judge Ryan Boyer Monday on a charge of attempted murder.
"This appearance is to explain the charges against you," Judge Boyer said.
On count one, Whipkey was charged with attempted murder. On count two, he was charged with extended sentence for use of a firearm or deadly weapon. Both are felonies.
Whipkey could face 15 years in the Idaho Department of Corrections, a fine of $50,000 or both on count one. Count two doubles the possibility of imprisonment and/or fine.

Republicans to caucus on March 6

In July 2011, the Idaho State Republican Party put in place a new process to determine the selection of the state’s delegates to the Republican National Convention.
The new process is a caucus system. The Idaho Republican Caucus is scheduled on Super Tuesday, March 6. The caucus is scheduled in each county.

UPDATE; Teen shooter kills one at Ohio school

CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — A teenager opened fire in the cafeteria at his suburban Cleveland high school Monday, killing one student and wounding four others before he was chased from the building by a teacher and captured a short distance away, authorities said.
A student who saw the attack up close said it appeared that the gunman targeted a group of students sitting together and that the one who was killed was gunned down while trying to duck under the cafeteria table.

CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — A student who witnessed a deadly Ohio school shooting says it appeared the gunman was targeting a group of students sitting at a cafeteria table.
Freshman Danny Komertz says he was just about to leave for his first-period health class Monday when he heard a loud popping sound and then saw the gunman open fire.
He says one student who authorities say was killed was trying to get under a table to protect himself and shield his face.
Komertz says the shooter was known as an outcast who had apparently been bullied.

Update: 5 students shot in Ohio school

CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — An FBI spokeswoman says five students were injured when a shooter described as a classmate opened fire at an Ohio high school.
Special Agent Vicki Anderson said Monday the shooter was taken into custody near his car about half a mile away from the high school.
A spokeswoman for the Cleveland Clinic says two students were taken to the clinic's Hillcrest Hospital in suburban Cleveland.
A spokeswoman for the Cleveland MetroHealth System says an additional three students were taken to the Cleveland hospital.
There was no word on the extent of injuries.

CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — Gunfire at a high school outside Cleveland injured a number of students Monday morning, and at least one suspect has been taken into custody, officials said.
The shooting was reported around 7:30 a.m. at the 1,100-student Chardon High School about 30 miles east of Cleveland, said Civil Deputy Erin Knife of the Geauga County Sheriff's Office. She didn't know the number of victims, but multiple news reports cited four students shot.
Television news footage showed anxious parents escorting children away from a school building, and ambulances could be seen outside.

New flea market draws a crowd

Mike and Jennifer Burnside, Suzanne Cleveland and Derek Wheeler were among two dozen vendors who participated in a flea market at Krehbiel's Barn Event Center on Saturday.
Their products were as varied as they are. Burnsides sold custom wooden items ranging from clocks and jewelry to toys and decorative spoon sets. Cleveland sold baked goods, jams and dolls. And Wheeler sold items from storage units he had bought.
