BLACKFOOT â€” The Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations of Chamber members to fill three seats on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
The terms of three members on the board will expire at the end of this year. Nominations from the general membership of the Chamber of Commerce to fill these three seats will be accepted until Oct. 14. Nominations can be made by calling the Chamber at 785-0510, emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by mail at PO Box 801, Blackfoot, ID 83221.
ABERDEEN â€“ John Campbell has recently opened his own butcher shop, named Quality Meats, in Aberdeen. Campbell is a custom butcher and has worked in the trade for 16 years.
Campbell trained in the same building that he recently purchased. His apprenticeship was under Treasureâ€™s Custom Pack that, in turn, sold to Klempelâ€™s Fancy Kuts.
Three weeks ago, Campbell opened Quality Meats in the same location, having purchased his business from Klempelâ€™s Fancy Kuts.

BLACKFOOT â€” Bingham County Stop Soup is just around the corner, and the Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency is seeking donations to make the event a success.
Stone Soup will be Oct. 11 at Mountain View Middle School at 5:30 p.m.
Donations of items for the silent auction and raffle are being sought, and Bingham County Program Coordinator Bobette Jackson said itâ€™s a great way for local businesses to give back in a way that also supports their local community.
BLACKFOOT â€” The Blackfoot School Board of Trustees postponed a decision to accept or deny a petition for the Idaho STEM Academy, a proposed charter high school, after a public hearing Thursday night.
BLACKFOOT â€” It has been over 70 years since Bill Twitchell made the winning basket to lead Blackfoot High School to an Idaho state basketball championship.
Since then Twitchell has been a collegiate athlete, a soldier, a coach and a horseman. He has also worked on a movie set and he and his wife, the former Dorothy Jane Wray, have travelled extensively.
"The one thing I learned from my dad was, 'son, give it 110 percent and you'll always have a job," Twitchell said.
THOMAS â€” The Snake River School Board of Trustees approved all one-year contracts for teachers and extracurricular and special assignment contracts for the 2011-2012 school year at their meeting Wednesday night.
All certified employees within the district not eligible for a continuing contract were placed on a one-year contract, set to expire in June 2012. Superintendent Russell Hammond said they chose not to offer two-year contracts in hopes that salaries may be increased next year with a new contract.
Threat made to Blackfoot schools a hoax
BLACKFOOT â€” A threat made against schools in Blackfoot Monday night was found to be a hoax, police said Wednesday.
Law enforcement was notified of the threat Monday night from a citizen who had heard an individual speaking into a cell phone, Lt. Paul Newbold with the Blackfoot Police Department said. The threat was related to a school shooting and was targeted toward students in the sixth through twelfth grades, Newbold said.
BLACKFOOT â€” Organizers of the Blackfoot Community Garden are asking the public to help prevent thefts from the garden.
People who are seeking to help themselvesâ€”whether it is through lowering grocery bills or providing their families with nutritional fruits and vegetables have tended to the garden, which consists of approximately 15 private plots.
This week, approximately $1,000 worth of produce grown in the garden was taken, said Lee Hammett, Community Dinner Table board member. The Community Garden is an extension of the Community Dinner Table.
POCATELLO â€“ An Eastern Idaho man who pleaded guilty to running a multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme was sentenced to eight years in federal prison Tuesday.
Daren Palmer, 42, formerly of Idaho Falls, was sentenced for his role in a Ponzi investment scheme in which investors lost over $29 million, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson said.
BLACKFOOT â€” The Blackfoot City Council eliminated a section of its personnel policy that requires all department heads to live within the city limits. The decision was made at the City Council meeting Tuesday night.
The policy, which required all new appointed department heads to live within the city limits or move within the city limits within six months of hire, was eliminated. The section of the policy requiring all on-call city employees to live within five miles of the city limits remains. This applies to police, fire and certain water, sewer and street personnel.
