George Charles Burback, 86, of Pocatello passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at his home.
He was born of Feb. 12, 1925, in Parker, Idaho. Charlie was the first of four children born to George Louis and Vera Ford Burback (Heltne). He attended Pocatello High School.
Charlie entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943, seeing action in England and Germany as a tail gunner in B-17s. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married Betty Nussbaum, his childhood sweetheart, on Dec. 1, 1947. They had two children- David (Linda) of Corvallis, Ore., and Sandra (Kim) Rogers of Blackfoot.
Don Leon Arnold, 80, of Blackfoot, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle with renal failure.
He was born June 12, 1930 in Pocatello, the son of Lloyd Lester and Hattie Howell Arnold.
Don graduated from Pocatello High School and joined the Navy.Â He served during the Korean Conflict in Guam.Â He was honorably discharged and served in the National Guard in Pocatello for four years.
On April 20, 1951, he married Doreen Hansen in Pocatello.
Don was a member of the Elks Lodge.Â He worked as a machinist at MTR, ATR, TRA (all at the INEEL) and retired in 1994.
Paul Elliot Leffler, 42, of Pocatello passed away Monday, May 9, 2011, following an illness while in the company of family membersÂ at a local hospital.Â
He was born on June 24, 1968, in Pocatello to Laura Marie (Monroe) and Paul C. Leffler.Â He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1986.Â While in school he enjoyed being on the baseball team.Â After high school, Paul jointed the military.Â He served in the Army for five years.Â He was an Apache helicopter crew chief during Desert Storm.Â Paul loved fishing and hunting.
Blanche V. Davis Gay Jones, 93, of Riverside, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011 at her home in Riverside surrounded by her family.
Blanche was born April 27, 1918 on a dry farm in Clark County, Idaho. She was the first of ten children born to Minnie S. Berry Davis and Howard Milton Davis.
She eventually moved to the Blackfoot area where she married Walter Scott Gay on May 11, 1936 in Brigham City, Utah.
She was a faithful member of the Episcopal Church. Blanche had a great love for her family, friends, many pets, travel, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors.
Merlin (Toots) E. Southworth 82 passed away Friday May 13, 2011 at his home following a long lingering illness.
Merlin was born in Pocatello, Idaho to Joseph (Shorty) Edward and Eliza Ann Jackson Southworth. on August 4th 1928.
He was raised on a farm most of his life and acquired a great love for animals and especially horses, which he passed on to his 3 children.
He loved and participated in the rodeos and the high light of the parade every year was when he rode the bucking barrel.Â Maybe he rode the bucking barrel too many times as his back paid the price.
Randall â€śRandyâ€ť Yancey, 45, of Pinole, Calif., passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2011, at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Richmond, California.
Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home and will be announced.
PRESTON â€“ Nelda Bradley Francis, 87, passed away May 10, 2011, in Preston.Â
She was born March 10, 1924, in Preston to Orthello Carlyle and Maggie Bell Bradley.Â Nelda married William Joseph (Tony) Francis on March 31, 1944, in Ely, Nev.Â The marriage was then solemnized April 5, 1944, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She was the mother of eight children, 32 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.Â She said many times, â€śmy husband and my family are the joy of my life.â€ťÂ
Nelda and Tony worked in five temples and served a mission to the Mexico City Temple.
Reta Maxine Andrus, 75, passed away on May 10, 2011 at her home in Blackfoot after an extended illness.Â
She was born Oct. 13, 1935, to James Hyrum and Stella Killian Garrett at the family home in Lewisville.
Reta spent her youth in Lewisville. She married James Andrus in 1952; they later divorced. Most of her adult life has been spent in the Blackfoot area.
Reta worked many years at State Hospital South in the geriatric unit.Â While president of the local chapter of Business & Professional Women in 1982, Reta was instrumental in starting the Bingham County Crisis Center.
BEND, Ore. â€” Mildred I. Orton, 85, of Bend, Ore., passed away May 8, 2011, at her home.
She was born Aug. 20, 1925, in Blackfoot to Thomas and Elva Scott Miller.Â Mildred lived and attended school in the Lost River area, Pocatello, California, and completed her high school in Salt Lake City, Utah.Â She also attended Business School in Salt Lake City and Pocatello.
REXBURG â€” Penny Maye Wheeler Blacker Gentillon, 35, of Pingree passed Monday, May 9, 2011, at the Madison Memorial Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Jan. 16, 1976, in Idaho Falls to Norman LaMar and Julia Diane Ricks Wheeler.Â Penny attended Hillview,Â Ammon Elementary and graduated from Hillcrest High School.Â She received her Medical Assistantâ€™s Certificate from EITC in Idaho Falls.
On Nov. 28, 2008, she married Clinton Gentillon in Firth.Â They made their home in Pingree;Â she has resided in the Blackfoot area the past nine and a half years.
