December 14th
BLACKFOOT — The top ranked and undefeated Bonneville Bees came to Blackfoot on Friday night in a conference tilt at Chris Gardner Gymnasium and when the game was over, the Bees remained undefeated as they turned in a hot night on the offensive end in an 87-63 victory over the Broncos.
December 12th
BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Broncos hosted the Hillcrest Knights on the basketball court Wednesday evening looking to even the season series on their home court. Unfortunately, the Knights were not cooperating in that plan as they turned in a big second quarter to take a double-digit lead that they never relinquished in the 64-45 downing of the Broncos.
"Basketball is a game of runs," Blackfoot head coach Dan Hale said. "When you don't stop their run and then don't go on a run of your own it makes it very difficult to win basketball games. Hillcrest are a good team though. You can't take anything away from them."
RIGBY- They came, they saw, they conquered. The Blackfoot Broncos traveled north Wednesday night as they competed in a double duel with the Hillcrest Knights, and the Madison Bobcats. Not only did they compete, but they dominated as they swept the duel winning 69-15 against conference foe Hillcrest, and skinning the Bobcats 69-6.
December 11th
BLACKFOOT — Foul trouble reared it's ugly head at Blackfoot High School on Tuesday evening and for the home standing Lady Broncos, the trouble was all theirs as they were forced to sit a trio of their starters for a large portion of the first half of play against 5A Madison.
Madison took advantage of that as they poured in 51 first half points en route to an 80-52 win over the Lady Broncos.
December 7th
BLACKFOOT — With the score tied at 45-45 and just over two minutes remaining in the huge cross river rivalry game between the Broncos and the Panthers junior McKye Watt stepped up and drilled a three pointer from the baseline. After a missed three on the other end, Watt followed that up with another three ball from the opposite corner to give his team a 51-45 lead.
Unlike years past however, the Watt in question was wearing Bronco green and those shots proved critical as the Blackfoot squad evened their season record at 2-2 with a 54-50 win over Snake River.
December 5th
FIRTH — Fresh off of a disappointing loss to their neighbor Shelley the night previous, the Firth Lady Cougars returned home for a date with cross county rival Aberdeen on Wednesday evening. Firth showed no ill signs from the Shelley loss though as they sprinted to a 22-2 first quarter advantage and then kept the Lady Tigers at arms length for the remainder of the evening for the 58-39 non-conference victory.
"We really stressed being mentally tough and to not have a let down after last nights tough loss," Firth head coach Sharla Cook said. "I was proud of the way that the kids came out and started the game tonight."
Firth opened with 20 straight points before Aberdeen finally broke the seal on the rim as Taylor Wallace got the Lady Tigers on the board with :23 remaining in the quarter.
December 4th
SHELLEY — The Shelley Lady Russets and the Firth Lady Cougars closed out their regular season schedule with each other on Tuesday evening and in the end, a 20-2 run over the third and fourth quarters of play proved to be the difference as the home standing Shelley squad prevailed with the 50-41 victory.
FIRTH — The 2012-13 wrestling season got under way on Tuesday night for a pair of Bingham County teams as the Firth Cougars hosted the Shelley Russets, Sugar-Salem Diggers and Marsh Valley Eagles for a double duel on the mats.
Firth wound up winning both ends of their two matches on the evening first with a 51-30 win over Sugar-Salem and then with a 54-30 win over the Russets in the nightcap.
Conversely, Shelley found themselves on the wrong end of both matches first with a 42-30 loss to Marsh Valley and then the loss to Firth in the finale.
November 30th
BLACKFOOT — After trailing by close to 10 points for the majority of the game, Blackfoot made a run to cut Madison's lead to 32-30 with two minutes left in the third quarter. The Broncos didn't score from the field for another five minutes and by that time the lead and grown to 11 and the Bobcats hung on to win 53-44.
"We did some good things tonight," Blackfoot head coach Dan Hale said. "Especially defensively. Offensively is where we need to see some improvement. We played like five individuals for most of the night instead of running our offense. I think we were just trying too hard."
