IDAHO FALLS — The number was one on Thursday night for the Blackfoot Broncos as they stood one game away from the coveted berth into the state tournament. One team stood in their way and at the end of seven innings of hard fought baseball, one run prevented the Broncos from fulfilling their season long goal as they fell 9-8 to the Knights of Hillcrest at Melalueca Field.
"One more out," Blackfoot head coach Kenny Dahle said. "We made a huge step as a program. We were one out from getting into the state tournament. These kids battled all year long, they battled all day today. I'm proud of them and I think that our program is heading in the right direction."
AMMON — "We're going to state!" That was the refrain following Blackfoots 7-5 victory over Bonneville on Wednesday afternoon as the Blackfoot Lady Broncos punched their ticket to the big dance after a one year absence.
"These girls are just pumped to go show off their skills at state," Blackfoot head coach Matt Chavez said. "We really want a chance to redeem ourselves if we get a chance to play Rigby again."
IDAHO FALLS — With the season in the balance the Blackfoot Broncos entered their loser out contest with Madison tied at 2-2 to begin the seventh inning. Colby Pearson was able to move himself into scoring position and senior Shawn Whitehead came through with an RBI single which allowed Pearson to run into home, putting the Broncos ahead.
With the Blackfoot’s strong defense working together, they were able to hold the Bobcats in the bottom of the seventh as they took the 3-2 win.
