THOMAS — Bret Parkinson drove in five runs and Cash Cardona added two in support of Zane Stephenson's pitching as Snake River downed Marsh Valley 10-4 on Tuesday. The win gave the Panthers the Fifth District baseball title and earned them a spot in the state Class 3A tournament next week.
"Do not dangle a championship in front of these Snake River kids and challenge them," a happy coach Rich Dunn said.
He praised Stephenson, who scattered six hits and struck out eight. Both teams had plenty of defensive problems on the windy day. Each team committed six errors.
POCATELLO — The regular season champion Blackfoot Lady Broncos opened their conference tournament on Tuesday as they squared off with the Century Lady Diamondbacks at OK Ward Park. By games end, Blackfoot had advanced to today's title game as the bottom of the line up came through with 8 of the Lady Broncos 11 runs in a 11-3 victory.
"Huge, just huge," Blackfoot head coach Matt Chavez said of his lineup. "The girls came through with big hits when we needed them just like they have all year long. I think that this wasn't our best game this year but we did enough to get the job done."
