IDAHO FALLS — The schedule may have said this was the first game of the season for the Blackfoot Broncos boys soccer team, but Tuesday's opener with Skyline had all the make up of a playoff game.

Shelley ranked No. 1 in first Class 3A football poll

Defending champion Shelley is the top team in the first Class 3A football poll of the season.
The Russets got seven first place votes.
Snake River is ranked fourth in the preseason poll.
Firth is ranked second in the initial Class 2A poll and Blackfoot is ranked third in the first Class 4A poll of the season.
Play begins this weekend with Idaho Falls at Blackfoot, Snake River at South Fremont, Firth at Westside and Shelley taking on West Jordan, Utah, in Holt Arena.

POCATELLO — For the first time since fall camp began Aug. 12, the Blackfoot High School football got the chance to hit somebody else.
What was supposed to be jamboree between Blackfoot, Burley and host Highland was cut short by Mother Nature as a series of thunderstorms moved through Pocatello causing the day to halted early.

For former Sho-Ban High School boys basketball coach Lester Stewart, that opportunity came a little sooner than expected.

POCATELLO — When the Idaho State soccer team left the pitch of Davis Field last week after a 2-0 win over Salt Lake Community College, head coach Allison Gibson said her team was still a long ways away from being ready for the beginning of the season.

Duffin named Tigers head coach

ABERDEEN — It has been a wild week for the Aberdeen High School football team.
First head coach Cory Hollingsworth resigned last Wednesday to take a teaching and coaching job in Oregon and defensive coordinator Derek Jolley was named interim head coach.
Practice opened for the team on Monday, two days later athletic director Cody Park named Jeff Duffin the teams new head coach.

Despite struggles Bengals win

POCATELLO -- There was a theme to the Idaho State soccer teams exhibition opener against Salt Lake Community College Tuesday afternoon; missed opportunities.
The Bengals spent much of the game within five yards of the top of the goal box, and despite the heavy attack the Bruins goalies faced, the goals were few and far between.

ABERDEEN— Aberdeen Athletic Director, Cody Park, states that head football and basketball coach, Cory Hollingsworth, has stepped down as of Thursday.

POCATELLO – At the end of Saturday’s first practice Idaho State volleyball head coach Chad Teichert asked his team who was going to win the Big Sky Championship.
The response, a resounding “we are”.
