Kramer: defense must improve

POCATELLO — There was an a theme to Idaho State head football coach Mike Kramer's pre-fall camp press conference Thursday afternoon and it was simple; the defense must get better.
Anyone who sat through an ISU football game last season knows that the Bengals defense was the poorest in the nation.

ISU soccer looks to defend title

POCATELLO — The last time the Idaho State soccer team was on the pitch at Davis Field they were celebrating a Big Sky Conference Championship.
During that weekend in November freshman goalie Sheridan Hapsic, helped propel the Bengals to the title after coming up with two huge saves during shoot out wins over Weber State in the semifinals and Montana in the finals.

Panthers having fun in Pocatello

CHUBBUCK — A week ago the Snake River Lady Panthers softball team struggled to an 0-4 weekend at the Snake River Summer Smash in Idaho Falls.
Friday afternoon the Panthers took the field of Capell Park in Chubbuck for the opening day of the Poky Shootout softball tournament.
Early on in the day the results were much better as the team downed the Utah Aftershock 9-2 in the opening round of pool play.

Over the last few weeks in newspapers all over the state I have seen lists of the top high school football games for the 2013 season.
While each list was intriguing in its own way and offered views and opinions on why each game was important, each also had stipulations in which the authors limited themselves to only district games or some other inconsequential subject.

After what seems like an eternity the 2013 high school football season will get underway next week as teams all over the state will lace up their cleats and don the pads and helmets to begin practice.

POCATELLO – Saturday’s agenda for the Blackfoot Broncos was simple; win two games and advance to Sunday’s second place game and still have a chance to earn a spot in next week’s state tournament.
Any loss and the Broncos season would come to an end.

Russets' baseball summer comes to an end

July 26, 2013

The summer has come to an end for the Shelley Russets.
In their return to American Legion baseball after a 10-year absence the Russets had their hopes of making it into next week’s American Legion ‘A’ state tournament dashed as the Idaho Falls Rangers defeated them 13-2 in five inning at Halliwell Park.
The Russets' downfall on Friday with their inability to get the third out of several innings.

Twin Falls defeats Blackfoot in Legion semifinals

There may be no sport that feeds off of emotion more than the game of baseball.
With each pitch, a team's fate can change and a comfortable lead can become a large deficit.
The Blackfoot Broncos found that out Friday afternoon in the semifinal game of the Area ‘C’ American Legion district tournament at Halliwell Park.

Russets, Broncos begin American Legion District tournament today

BLACKFOOT — All summer long the Blackfoot Broncos American legion baseball team has been on of the tops teams in Area 'C'.
The Broncos were so good in fact they earned the top spot in the west division of Area 'C' and a first round bye into the quarterfinals of today's American Legion district tournament that begins today at Halliwell Park in Pocatello.

Huthings takes second in barrels at NHSFR

BLACKFOOT — A month after clinching her spot in the National High School Finals Rodeo, Snake River High School freshman Timmi Hutchings took to the back of her horse on a much bigger stage last week.
