FIRTH â€” Last Friday night the Firth Cougars defense wanted to pitch the shutout against visiting Ririe.
But with a 59-0 lead in the fourth quarter head coach Keith Drake pulled his starters and put in his junior varsity players and Ririe was able to get a late touchdown.

IONA â€“ On paper Thursday nightâ€™s game between Bonneville and Blackfoot appeared to favor the Bees who are looking to stay up near the top of the 4A District 5/6 standings.
FIRTH â€” Early in the match against Salmon Wednesday night the Firth High School volleyball team found themselves in a four point hole.
For the next few points the Cougars tried to dig themselves out of the hole, but mistakes were keeping Salmon in front.
BLACKFOOT â€” During the opening 40 minutes Tuesday afternoon the Blackfoot Lady Broncos and the Idaho Falls Lady Tigers were locked in a defensive struggle.
FIRTH â€” Coming into Friday night's home game with Ririe, Firth senior defensive back Brady Oleson had not started a game this season.
Naturally the game plan of the visiting Bulldogs was to attack the side of the field Oleson was playing.
That plan backfired.
BLACKFOOT â€” For Blackfoot senior Cassandra Clarke finding the back of a soccer net is not something that is very difficult.
But Thursday afternoon against Bonneville, finding the back of the net proved to be a tough task.
Clarke's first three shots on goal were stopped by the Bonneville goalie, but in the 35th minute Clarke finally found the back of the net scoring the final Blackfoot goal as the Lady Broncos walked way with a 3-1 victory.
Brylie Bair had 9 kills and Kenna Shelley added 3 as Snake River downed Bear Lake 25-12, 25-17, 25-14 in District 5 volleyball action on Wednesday.
The Panthers (35-5, 1-0) had little trouble with the Bears (0-1). The teams were deadlocked 4-4 in game one before Snake River went on an 8-0 run. Bear Lake led briefly again in game two, but the Panthers started with a 6-0 run in game three and methodically pulled away.
Carter and Shelley had an ace apiece while Kylee Orr had 16 assists.
BLACKFOOT â€” So close.
Those two words described the night the Blackfoot High School volleyball team had against Madison Tuesday and just how close they were from pulling an upset on the visitors from Rexburg.
Believe it or not we have just finished the first month of the high school football season.
While most teams in the state are wrapping up their non-conference match-ups and preparing for the meat of their schedule, there will still be a few big non-conference match-ups later in the season.
