Broncos, Grizzlies play to a draw

BLACKFOOT — Three weeks ago the Blackfoot and Skyline boys soccer teams took to the pitch of the Idaho Falls Soccer Complex and for 75 plus minutes battled to a 2-2 tie.
But a late Skyline foul set up the Broncos with a penalty kick, which won the game for Blackfoot 3-2.

Snake River gets win over Star Valley

THOMAS — Quarterback Kade Keller scored on a pair of 7-yard runs and Brad Coombs had a 1-yard plunge as Snake River defeated Star Valley, Wyo., 22-19 in non-conference football on Friday.
Keller's second score came with 11:31 left in the fourth quarter. The Panther defense, led by Coombs, held off the Braves fourth times thereafter.
"Star Valley has had our number the last couple of years," said Panther coach Jeff Dalley. "Early on tonight we got some turnovers and had some momentum."
The Panther win broke a three-game win streak for the Braves in the series.

Shelley topples Jerome 28-7

SHELLEY - Coming off of a undefeated season capped with a State Championship the Russets hosted the 4A Jerome Tigers in their first home game of the season.
After a slow start the Russets scored twenty one in the second half to cruise to a solid 28-7 victory.

Skyline downs Blackfoot in 2OT

IDAHO FALLS — With a seven point lead and a little more than two minutes remaining in the game the Blackfoot defense had Skyline in a fourth and nine situation at the Broncos 39 yard line.

Late goal sinks Lady Russets

SHELLEY — For 79:40 the Shelley High School girls soccer team played with and even at one time led a very feisty Rigby squad.
But with the seconds winding down Rigby's Kaylin Jensen sent a free kick into the upper left corner of the goal from 35 yards out to give the Trojans a 3-2 over the Lady Russets.

Arm wrestling champs crowned

BLACKFOOT — The 2013 State Arm Wrestling Championship took place on Saturday at the Eastern Idaho State Fair. The 21st annual championship drew 158 participants from Idaho, Utah, Montana and Nevada.

Shelley rolls over West Jordan, Utah, 28-6

It was not the start the defending 3A state champion Shelley Russets wanted, but the end result turned out to be just what the Russet faithful wanted.
 After surrendering a 65-yard touchdown in the third play of the game the Russets outscored visiting West Jordan 28-0 to earn a 28-6 win in the second game of the Rocky Mountain Rumble Friday in Holt Arena.
After shutting down the Jaguars on the first two offensive plays of the game, West Jordan quarterback Colton Mickelson found a wide open Chandler Frischknect who beat the Shelley secondary for a 65-yard touchdown.

Snake River edges South Fremont, 20-16

ST. ANTHONY- When you think of the Panthers from Snake River, you think of tough, gritty farm kids. The Panthers showed their resilience Friday night as they outlasted the Cougars of South Fremont 20-16.
The Panthers start this season returning only two starters from last year’s squad, so they expected some growing pains as they played the opener.
“Most of these kids haven’t ever played in this situation; we have a lot of young kids, and I am really proud of the way they stepped up for us tonight,” said coach Jeff Dalley.

Idaho Falls holds off furious Blackfoot rally

Clayton Powell sealed Idaho Falls' 40-35 non-conference victory over Blackfoot when he intercepted Taylor Pearson's pass with 10 seconds remaining on Friday night.
Down 40-14 entering the fourth quarter, the Broncos finally got their offense untracked and scored three times to make things interesting.
With the Tigers (1-0) trying to play conservatively to protect their big lead, the Broncos (0-1) got an 11-yard touchdown run from Austin Capson, a 10-yard run from Kylar Haddon and an 11-yard pass from Pearson to Matt Peterson and three points-after-touchdowns from Gabe Botello.

Lady Panthers sweep Lady Diggers

THOMAS — Last week Snake River head coach Shelli Van Orden said she wanted to fight for every win she got during the season.
Well in Thursday night's season opener against Sugar-Salem, the Panthers got the fight she wanted.
