Key free throws give Lady Panthers win over Filer

THOMAS — It has been a week since the Snake River Lady Panthers last took to the basketball floor.
In that time the team hasn't had a lot of practice as head coach Rich Dunn was helping the coach the Panthers football team to the 3A state title last Friday.
Despite that the Panthers took to the floor Tuesday against Filer.
It wasn't the prettiest of games but the Panthers earned a hard fought win going 13-of-14 in the final 3:35 to earn a 44-35 victory.

Tigers come up short in 2A title game

POCATELLO — It had been 36 years since the Aberdeen Tigers last played for a state football championship.
And coming into Monday's 2A state title game in Holt Arena the Tigers were confident they would get a little redemption over West Side for the defeat earlier in the season.
But the Pirates controlled the opening half of play scoring a pair of second quarter touchdowns to earn a 16-6 win and the 2A state championship Monday night in Holt Arena.

Bishop Kelly breaks Blackfoot’s hearts

POCATELLO – There are certain things you can’t do in a championship game.
Turning the ball over, committing penalties and failing to capitalize on opportunities are some of the big ones, and mistakes the Blackfoot Broncos rarely made this season.
But in Friday night’s 4A state championship game against Bishop Kelly the Broncos made uncharacteristic mistakes all night long and, in the end a pair of big plays in the final minutes by the Knights handed the Broncos a 14-10 loss and gave Bishop Kelly its second consecutive 4A state championship.

Broncos, Panthers and Tigers one win away from a state championship

BLACKFOOT — The 2014 high school football season comes down to one final week as today begins state championship weekend all across the state.
And this season Bingham County has become the hotbed for football in the state as three of the five schools in the county will be playing for titles over the next few days.
Blackfoot, Snake River and Aberdeen will take to the field in the 4A, 3A and 2A games over the weekend with the goal of bring back titles back to Bingham County.
Each team has a good shot to win the title as the three squads come into the games with a combined record on 29-3.

Lady Broncos improve, but fall to Bees 59-38

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Lady Broncos are going to definitely go through some growing pains this season as new head coach Dallan Parker installs his new offense and gets a new group of players.
After losing to Hillcrest to start the season on Saturday, the Lady Broncos took to the floor the second time against former district foe Bonneville.
The Lady Broncos got off to a fast start after a steal and layup by Brookylnn Adams, but the Bees offense was too much for the Broncos to handle as the Bees earned a 59-38 win at Blackfoot High School Wednesday night.

Nelson heading to Oregon Tech

FIRTH — One of the top volleyball players in Eastern Idaho and one of the best to ever to dawn a Firth Cougars jersey sealed her future on Tuesday when Bailey Nelson signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for Oregon Tech.
"What sold me on Oregon Tech was the coach and how he treats me as a player and an individual," Nelson said. "He wants to win and I will also get the chance to play if I earn my spot."

Tigers grind out win over Orofino to punch ticket to state title game

POCATELLO — Prior to Monday's weather delayed 2A state semifinal game the Aberdeen Tigers had made the state semifinals just twice in school history.
So Monday's match-up with Orofino inside Holt Arena was a chance for the Tigers to punch just their second ever trip to the 2A title game and the schools first since 1978.
And when four quarters of tough hard nosed football was over Monday night the Tigers had earned a 21-7 win over the Maniacs and will be playing in the 2A championship game next Monday in Holt Arena.

Broncos roll into 4A state championship game with 48-15 blowout win over Middleton

POCATELLO — With a berth in next Friday's 4A state championship game just a win away the Blackfoot Broncos had just a scrappy run oriented Middleton team standing in their way.
But this years Broncos squad was not going to be denied a return to the championship game.
Pacen Hayes threw for 228 yards and five touchdowns and the defense held the Vikings scoreless until late in the fourth quarter as Blackfoot rolled to a 48-15 win over the Vikings Saturday night inside Holt Arena.

Snake River beats Shelley for berth in Class 3A finals

POCATELLO – When the Shelley Russets ventured to Thomas in early October the Panthers defense took the control of the game on the first defensive series as Snake River pitched a 19-0 shutout of the two-time defending state champs.
After that loss Shelley head coach Travis Hobson said that was a game his and the rest of his team wanted back.

Aberdeen playoff game moved to Monday

Because of inclement weather, the Idaho High School Activities Association has rescheduled at least three state semifinal football games.
Among those changed are Rigby at Bishop Kelly, Highland vs. Rocky Mountain and Aberdeen vs. Orofino.
The new time for the Rigby-BK game is 1 p.m. Saturday in Boise with Highland vs. Rocky Mountain at Holt Arena in Pocatello at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Aberdeen vs. Orofino will be played at 5:30 p.m. on Monday in Holt Arena.
