THOMAS â€”Â The way the match began Thursday night it was easy to think the Snake River Lady Panthers were going to roll visiting South Fremont.
But that was far from the case.
After rolling over the Cougars 25-13 in set one, the Panthers had to battle and claw to take set two 25-21.
Snake River dropped set three forcing a fourth set.
In the fourth and final set the Panthers led the entire way, but had to fight off a very tough Cougar team at the end to earn 25-20 win and take the match 3-1.
BLACKFOOT â€”Â Going into Wednesday night's senior night game the Blackfoot Broncos already knew they would be the number two seed in next week's District 5/6 soccer tournament.
But the goal was to earn the victory in front of a raucous home crowd under the light's of the Blackfoot High School football field.
For over 65 minutes the Broncos and Trojans played to a scoreless draw. But a free kick with 13:45 left in the game found the back of the net to give Rigby a 1-0 win spoiling senior night for the Broncos five seniors.
BLACKFOOT â€”Â After taking a two sets to one lead over visiting Preston Tuesday night, the Blackfoot Lady Broncos needed to put together one clean set to earn a big district win.
But in that fourth set things fell apart very quickly.
The Lady Broncos fell behind 6-1 to start the set and never found and flow as Preston cruised to a 25-11 set win to force a decisive fifth set.
Prior to that fifth and final set the Lady Broncos huddled around head coach Mindy Baldwin to hear some final instructions before hitting the floor.
THOMAS â€”Â If there was any downside to the Lady Panthers win over Marsh Valley on Tuesday it was the service game.
Snake River did not serve well the entire match and that allowed the Eagles to stay in the match a little longer than many in attendance thought.
Thursday, the Lady Panthers welcomed Teton to Thomas and from the opening serve the Panthers had fixed their issues from two days prior.
The Panthers serving was the key to match as in each set a big run set up by strong serves.
Snake River won the match in straight sets 25-14, 25-13, 25-13 at Snake River High School Thursday night.
BLACKFOOT â€”Â The Blackfoot Broncos tri-match with district foe Rigby and Hillcrest was delayed by a half hour Wednesday afternoon when the officials had a miscommunication and showed up late.
During the delay the Broncos and Rigby warmed up and got ready for the match.
The extra warm-up time was not a good thing for the Broncos as the fell to the Trojans in straight sets and later in the night lost to Hillcrest in two sets.
"We did not play well at all,"Â Blackfoot head coach Mindy Baldwin said of the Rigby match. "I don't know what I have to do to get them up for a big match."
BLACKFOOT â€”Â With the district standings starting to sort themselves out and the district tournament less than two weeks away, the Blackfoot Lady Broncos were looking for momentum heading into the season final three games.
Tuesday's game with Preston was also senior day for the Lady Broncos four seniors, but the second seeded Indians spoiled the final home game for the Broncos in 2014.
Preston's Chole Hendrickson scored a hat trick to pace the Indians to a 3-1 win on Tuesday afternoon at Blackfoot High School.
FIRTH â€”Â The Firth Lady Cougars have made some real strides during the 2014 season.
After going winless for over 18 months the squad picked up a big win earlier this season on the road over South Fremont. The team also had numerous games where one bounce could have changed a loss to a win.
Under a persistent rain Saturday night the Lady Cougars took to the pitch one last time under the light's of the Firth High School football stadium for senior night against South Fremont.
The Cougars recognized the 11 seniors who have given so much to the program since it was started three seasons ago.
BLACKFOOT â€”Â Mother Nature really did not want to cooperate Friday night.
In the hour leading up to the annual 'Buck Bowl' the clouds around Blackfoot High School began to darken and the threat of rain became evident as the lightening was getting closer and closer tot he field.
After the opening kick-off was delayed an hour by weather the Broncos and Bobcats got onto the field, but they didn't even get to halftime before they were pulled off the field again, this time for good.
THOMAS â€”Â There may no thing better in sports than a good rivalry game.
Living in Bingham Country sports fans are lucky enough to have their fair share of them to enjoy.
Thursday night at Snake River High School the Lady Panthers and Shelley Lady Russet volleyball teams took the floor and played a five set match that featured a little of everything.
After trading each of the first four sets, the Russets used an 11-0 fifth set run to stake the match in five sets 25-17, 29-31, 17-25, 26-16, 15-5.
BLACKFOOT â€”Â The Blackfoot Lady Broncos volleyball team has quite the start to the 2014 season.
After the high school gym was flooded during August's rain storm that flooded most of the city the ladies had to play all of their games during the opening month of the season on the road.
That all changed Wednesday night when the Broncos finally got to play their home opener against four-time defending state champion Century.
The Broncos were not intimidated by the state's top team in 4A and played tough the entire match but fell in the end 12-25, 17-25, 17-25 in front of the home fans.
