After slow start, Firth blows past Ririe

FIRTH — Coming into Saturday night's game with Nuclear Conference leader Firth the Ririe Bulldogs had just three wins and two of those came against Aberdeen.
So it was easy to see how the Firth faithful were expecting a blowout of the Cougars.
They did eventually leave the school after watching a blowout victory, but it did not go the way many had thought.
It took the Cougars almost five minutes of the opening quarter to score a basket and they scored just four first quarter points.
But after that opening quarter Firth head coach Scott Adams got his team going as the Cougars scored 64 points in the final three quarters to earn a 68-19 victory.

Panthers get big district win over Bears

February 1, 2014

THOMAS — After the overtime loss to Shelley last week Snake River head coach Bob Coombs said that Bear Lake was going to be the Panthers biggest challenge for the district championship.
He was right.
A nine point lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter was cut to five with 1:42 left before the Panthers closed out the game at the foul line hitting all six free throws down the stretch to earn a 48-40 win over Bear Lake.

Broncos cruise past Preston 85-56

BLACKFOOT — Coming into the senior night game against Preston Thursday night, the Blackfoot Lady Broncos already knew they would play one more game on their home floor in next week's district tournament.
That did not mean the girls could not send the Blackfoot faithful away without a show.
Morningrose Tobey, Cassandra Clarke and Ella Alvarez combined to score 68 of the Broncos 85 points as Blackfoot ran to an 85-56 win over the Indians Thursday night.

Panthers cruise to win on senior night

THOMAS — For Snake River's Makena Shelley, Brylie Bair and Scout Baldwin Wednesday night's home game against Bear Lake was the last time any of the three of them would play a game in the gym at Snake River High School.
The game also had implications on seeding for the 3A District 5 tournament.
I t did not take long for the Lady Panthers to establish their control of the game as Shelley nailed a three pointer to get the scoring started and the defense took care of the rest as the Panthers cruised to a 56-20 victory.

Broncos tame Panthers on the mats

THOMAS — Blackfoot and Snake River High School's renewed their city rivalry Tuesday night but this time it was on the wrestling mat, and this time the visitors from across the river came out victorious.
Blackfoot controlled the early part of the match building a big lead and ended taking down the Panthers 57-30 at Snake River High School.

Nelson’s three in overtime earns Russets season sweep of Panthers

THOMAS — Another game for the ages.
That phrase accurately describes each meeting between the Shelley and Snake River boys basketball teams in recent years, Saturday night's second meeting of the season was no different.
A huge block on a potential game-winning shot by Tyler Fredrickson in the final seconds of regulation sent the game into overtime.
In the overtime Bracken Nelson nailed the go ahead three-pointer with 24.8 seconds left as the Russets earned the season sweep of the defending 3A state champion Panthers 62-59 Saturday night at Snake River High School.

Blackfoot’s Sargent takes home Red Halverson Invite title

RUPERT — Bryant Sargent's first place finish at 170 pounds capped of an eighth place finish for the Blackfoot wrestling team at the Red Halverson Memorial Wrestling Invite at Minico High School on Saturday.
Sargent defeated Bonneville's Jared Bird in the finals of the 170 pound classification.

County wrestlers have success in Sugar City

SUGAR CITY — The Firth Cougars wrestling team was one of four Bingham County schools that participated in the John Berry Classic Sugar Invitational at Sugar-Salem High School last weekend and the Cougars finished the two-day tournament in seventh place to lead the results for the county schools.
Layton Wasia kept his undefeated record intact after taking down Teton's Tristan Hansen in the 145 pound final.
Coltyr Brewington came home second in the 285 pound division, while Luke Madsen and Clay Elkington finished the weekend with third place finishes.

Bees run past Broncos 73-51

BLACKFOOT — When the Blackfoot and Bonneville basketball teams met in Iona on Dec. 18, the Broncos let a lead slip away in the final two minutes before falling by seven.
Friday night the top ranked team in the 4A ranks made the trip south to Blackfoot for the seasons second and final meeting.
The Broncos who came into the game on a six-game losing also needed to find a way to stop the Bees Jared Stutzman and Telly Davenport.
After one quarter the Bees duo established the control of the game scoring 23 of the Bees 25 first quarter points on the way to a 73-51 victory.

Tobey, Clarke combine for 44 in Broncos win over Bees

BLACKFOOT — Morningrose Tobey and Cassandra Clarke combined to score 44 points as Blackfoot earned a big 4A District 5/6 win over Bonneville 56-42 Thursday night at Blackfoot High School.
Tobey, who was celebrating her 17th birthday Thursday was the spark plug for the Broncos on both ends of the floor, while Clarke continued her aggressive play from the last few games.
