March 30th, 2011
IDAHO FALLS — After a two week hiatus, the Shelley Russet softball squad returned to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon as they opened their conference season with a double-header against Bonneville at Craver Field.
With the long lay off, the Lady Russets showed some rust, especially in the field as Bonneville swept both ends of the double dip 22-0 and 18-1.
March 29th
BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot native Marianna Molinari will leave bright and early this morning for a 9 hour road trip to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Molinari, a Blackfoot High School graduate will join approximately 600 other Olympic hopefuls in the Junior Olympics.
Molinari will be competing in the air rifle competition where her and her coach believe that she has a great shot at progressing into the finals.
March 25th
BLACKFOOT — A day after a road loss at Bonneville, the Blackfoot Broncos returned home, looking for a season split with the Bees.
After an early start time on the diamond and a slow start at the plate, Blackfoot rebounded for a nice 5-3, come from behind victory.
"It really feels good. The boys came out today a little slow to get started but once they did I was really impressed," Blackfoot head coach Kenny Dahle said.
March 23rd
BLACKFOOT — Blackfoot and Snake River got together on Wednesday afternoon for a double dip on the softball field in a reschedule of the games that were snowed out on Tuesday.
Playing for their first games of the season, Blackfoot was able to get the better of the twin bill by sweeping their cross river rivals 5-1 and 12-4.
BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot tennis team cruised by the Sugar-Salem Diggers on Wednesday with the boys squad winning 5.5 - .5 and the girls team pulling out a 3.5 - 2.5 victory.
"Over all it was a great win for us, we did very well on the day," Blackfoot head coach Brint Jefferis said. "Our freshman are playing really well and our doubles were real strong for us today."
BLACKFOOT — The traditional Blackfoot-Snake River rivalry was renewed on Wednesday afternoon as the Broncos and the Panthers squared off on the diamond for a good old fashioned baseball game at Blackfoot High School.
At the end of the day, Blackfoot emerged triumphant with a 11-5 victory as they begin the season by winning the debut for new head coach Kenny Dahle.
"We are just excited to be outside," coach Dahle said. "We were out here at 9 A.M. breaking up ice and frozen diamond dust down the third base line and we are just excited to get the season started."
March 18th
THOMAS — The season opener for the Snake River baseball team went about as good as one could have expected on Friday afternoon.
Squaring off with 6th district Teton, the Panthers got solid pitching, even better defense and more than enough hits in a 9-2 win.
"First time out I think that we played good and really it was just good to get out on the field," Snake River head coach James Carter said. "We had some kids make some great defensive plays. Cody Dean made some great plays at third and all in all it was a great way to start."
March 17th
POCATELLO — It was a pretty good opening day on the tennis courts for the Blackfoot tennis team as they tangled with a pair of state title contenders at Century High School for the season opener.
The Blackfoot boys turned in fine opening performance, winning their duel with Century 4-3 before falling 3-4 to Wood River in the night cap.
The girls fell in the team total in both of their matches, 2-5 to Century and 3-4 to Wood River.
March 4th
MERIDIAN – The Snake River Panthers opened a double-digit lead and then held off a hard charging Kimberly squad for an opening round, 55-52 win at the State Basketball Championships in Meridian on Thursday afternoon.
“I thought that the rebounds and the fast break early in the game got us off to a good start,” Snake River head coach Bob Coombs said. “Overall we did some nice things in tonight’s ball game.”
The Panthers came out of the gates with a high energy performance, collecting 21 rebounds in the first half, 9 of those on the offensive end as the Panthers built a 11-point bulge.
February 27th
NAMPA — For the next year, the Snake River Panther wrestling team will be announced as the 3A state champions. This hard earned and well deserved title was awarded to the Panthers on Saturday evening as the Panthers came together as a team, at just the right moment, to capture their first state title in over a decade, outdistancing second place Bonners Ferry 165 to 151.5.
